Lawmaker Promises Better Deal For Epe Residents

A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Abiodun Tobun, says better days are ahead of the residents of Epe in Lagos

Tobun, representing Epe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, gave this assurance at an Interactive Session organised by Epe Club Seventies.

The session, titled “An Evening with an Influential Personality in Epe Division”, was held at the club’s secretariat in the Mejindade Compound, Ita Marun, Epe, Lagos State.

Tobun,who disclosed several efforts he had made to lobby for infrastructural projects to the division, said that while some have been completed,others are still ongoing.

He commended the club for the initiative of bringing personalities to their foral to interact about the development of the community in a conducive and relaxed atmosphere.

He emphasized that the development and progress of our immediate community should be a paramount goal of all and sundry.

” There is need for synergy between the leaders and the people they are leading. l thank the entire Club for deeming it fit to invite him to this important sitting where he feels so relaxed because he is in the midst of his people.

On electricity, the lawmaker revealed that Epe was supposed to supply Ajah and Ikorodu, electricity, because of three National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) from the Federal Government, sometimes ago, Epe only got one.

He explained that I32/33 KVA NIPP project was designed to come from Omotosho and the high- tension to pass through Poka, Odomola and other towns.

According to him, however, some families did not help the project, claiming ownership of the land where the project was sited.

He stated that he had to tell the then Gov. Babatunde Fashola(to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy of the land, for it to be used for public purpose which he did,

Tobun, Chairman House Committee on Commerce, Industry and Trades, lamented that due to some reasons, the project equipment was diverted to Molajoye area.

He said: “My humble self and some stakeholders in Epe had done a lot on this electricity issue. Now, we have another site for the project at Oko Orisan and we need to get the equipment there by the Federal Government before it commences.

“The light we are enjoying now was done by the immediate past Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode. This club needs to partner with us to proffer a lasting solution to this electricity problem.”

On road infrastructure, the lawmaker noted that there were three roads to Epe, namely; Ikorodu-Itoikin road, Lekki-Epe road and Ijebu Ode- Epe road.

Tobun said that he had put up motions at different administrations on the house on the deplorable roads to Epe and had carried out palliative work on the Ikorodu-Itoikin road.

“Because I want the best for Epe, I have approached the current Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, when he assumed office on the roads; and he approved 17.8 KM Eleko – Epe Road.

“The First Phase, Eleko – T – Junction Epe is now completed and I have also put up another motion on the bridge components of the road to be read on the floor of the house as soon as possible.

“The construction of the Second Phase Eleko – Abraham Adesanya is also ongoing and be delivered by March next year ( 2024). So, we are not resting on our oars, we here to do more and better days are coming,” he said.

Tobun explained that the state government was now in collaboration with the Federal Government on the federal road in the interest of the Lagos residents.

He added that he had facilitated the 450- Car Park capacity Jetty for Epe, at Aiyetoro, with two Ferries from LAGFERRY, to ease transportation for constituents.

On youths, the lawmaker said that he had empowered so many youth with various skills, working equipments while also sponsoring G.C.E and JAMB Examinations for the Youth with free coaching classes.

“I am the first to build ICT Centre in Epe in order to improve the computer literacy of our youths, especially now that most exams are CBT based, ” he said.

He explained that he was working on a network of roads at Fowoseje and Oredegbe as well as opening up Abijan and Ladada to Elerangbe in order to reduce the traffic at Eleko.

Speaking,the President of the club, *Mr Hassan Adelaja,explained that the purpose of the interactive session was to bridge the gap between those in various elective offices and the masses.

Hassan said that the interactive session, which was aimed at strengthening communication and collaboration between the club, local communities, and influential figures in Epe, marked the maiden edition of their initiative, with Hon. Tobun as the inaugural guest.

He said the session had provided them with what was still needed to be done for attitudinal change.

Highlighting numerous feats the club had achieved for the progress and development of Epe, he said it had engaged in donations to General Hospital, Epe and Primary Health Centre, Youth Empowerment and Re-Orientation, as well as sharing of palliatives during COVID-19 to the people.

Benue: Dunamis Church Collapses  Kills Pastor

The Dunamis Church in Mission ward, North Bank, Makurdi, a suburb of the Benue state capital collapsed in the wee hours of Tuesday, killing the Resident Pastor, Pastor Sunny Ezekiel Ahmed.

The church building collapsed at about 1am on Tuesday, whilst the Pastor and four others were praying. However, the four other persons escapes unscathed.

The incident prompted the Senior Pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Center (DIGC), worldwide, Dr Pastor Paul Enenche to visit the scene of the incident.

Dr Pastor Paul Enenche who arrived the church at about 6pm on Tuesday said he and indeed the church regretted the loss, but added that it would have been worse had the incident happened on Sunday, during the “7 Hours in His Presence, Liberty Service”, a programme that eventually lasted for 8 hours.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene of the collapsed church, Dr Enenche said the Commission always applies due diligence in its construction works, adding that following the collapse of the church, the Commission would even be more detailed in its procedures.

Lamenting the death of Pastor Ahmed, he said “Absolutely, it’s a very saddening situation. Above everything that we are seeing is the loss of a very dedicated servant of God.

“We feel the deepness of the loss for ourselves, first; for his immediate family, the church that he pastors, the body of Christ and even the state as a whole.

“We feel very saddened and we trust that God will give all of us, including the family, the fortitude to bear the loss”, he prayed.

On construction works embarked upon by Dunamis, Dr Enenche observed that “As a Ministry and as a Commission, we employ all manner of due diligence in our procedures and this we have done in several things we do.

He added:”But going forward, we are looking in more details the procedures and technical details of construction and that this kind of thing will be forestalled in the future in the Name of Jesus.”

Narrating the incident, a neighbor around the church, Mrs Rebecca Aganyi who said that the incident took place at 1am, said the Pastor died after one of the beams of the church fell on him.

She explained that it had barely stopped raining in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when the building collapsed, saying that it took the intervention of neighbours to hack the lifeless body of the deceased out of the rubble’s.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Batholomew Onyeka has also confirmed the incident.

Popular Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti,says Nigerians almost destroyed his career following his altercation with a police officer.

He was arraigned before the Lagos State magistrate’s court and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Panti, Yaba, for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge in May 2023.

He was caught in a viral video on the internet slapping a police officer after an argument got out of hand and felt the need to defend himself and his family.

Seun Kuti in an Instagram live video, stated that he came dangerously close to losing his entire career as a result of the incident.

He added:“I’m tired of seeing my name everywhere attached to Sam Larry, Naira Marley, arrest or no arrest, police or no police. I’m really tired and I don’t want you guys to join me in your issues.

“That was how una used una mouth nearly spoil my life, nearly destroying my career with una yeye keypad and computer. I missed five or six big shows this summer just because I defended my life and the life of my family. For that reason Nigerians wanted my life to be ended, for me to be destroyed and no body cared.

“Nigeria Police suddenly became an innocent and peaceful force on earth. And Seun became the mad person that left his house looking for police to quarrel with. That was the picture you people painted about me then.”

Mohbad’s Death:Naira Marley Arrives Lagos

Singer Afeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley,Tuesday arrived in Lagos to assist in the ongoing probe of the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka MohBad.

He revealed this in a tweet on Tuesday, adding that he’d also be meeting with the police.

He said:”I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation. It’s important I do my part for Imole.

“I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail.”
