Oyo Assembly Reinstates Suspended Council Boss

The Oyo State House of Assembly has reinstated Honorable Olusola Oluokun, the suspended Chairman of Oyo East Local Government.

 

 

 

He was reinstated during a plenary session held on Thursday.

 

 

 

Hon. Oluokun’s suspension was due to a  social media video that depicted him in an inappropriate manner, making comments considered unsuitable for someone in his position.

 

 

Following an investigation by the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Oluokun was cleared of the charges against him.

 

 

Honorable Akintunde Olajide, representing the Lagelu State Constituency and chairing the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, presented the committee’s findings to the assembly on Thursday.

 

 

 

According to the report,the suspended chairman did not intentionally share the video that led to his suspension and showed genuine remorse for the incident.

 

 

 

The committee recommended his immediate reinstatement.Several lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, Gbenga Oyekola, and Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, praised the committee for conducting a swift and thorough investigation.

 

 

 

They noted that the suspension served as a cautionary reminder to others regarding their conduct in public office.

 

 

The House reached a unanimous decision to reinstate Hon. Oluokun after discussing and adopting the committee’s report. 

 

 

The Speaker, Rt. Honorable Adebo Ogundoyin, directed that the acting vice chairman return to his previous role, and announced the immediate reinstatement of Hon. Oluokun.

 

 

He also urged public office holders to exercise caution in their conduct, particularly in public settings.

 

 

AMCON Withdraws Litigation Against Heydren Petroleum

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) says it has  discontinued its pending litigation against Heyden Petroleum Limited, particularly Suit No. FHC/AMC/67/2024.

 

 

The agency also said it’s not in dispute with the petroleum company.

 

 

The act was sequel to the settlement of all issues between the agency and the petroleum company owned by the governor of Ogun State,Dapo Abiodun.

 

 

In a statement,the agency said the company has demonstrated commitment to meeting their obligations and has been making payments accordingly.

 

 

It added:”As a responsible debt recovery agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, it is not the practice of AMCON to engage in a media trial of obligors who are meeting their obligation. Accordingly, the general public is urged to disregard any negative commentaries on the relationship between AMCON and Heyden Petroleum Limited”.

Seplat Energy,Channels Academy Train Additional 50 Journalists

Seplat Energy Plc,a Nigerian indigenous energy company, has trained additional 50 journalists and media practitioners in Nigeria’s federal capital territory, Abuja as it concludes the third edition of its media training in line with the company’s sustainability commitments.

 

 

 

 

The media training programme was organized in partnership with Channels Academy, and had in attendance journalists/media practitioners in the energy, finance, capital market, judiciary, and general business beats.

 

 

 

 

The two-day media training, which was themed,‘Retooling the Media for Better Reporting’ dwelt on areas like:Local and International Energy Market Overview;the Intersection of the Judiciary and Energy Sector and the Fundamentals of Energy Journalism.Insights were also shared on Reporting Nigeria’s Local Energy Giants, Legal Compliance and Best Practice, Data Analysis and Interpretation as well as Leveraging Technology in Journalism. The event, which culminated in the presentation of Certificates also featured group discussions on ethical scenarios and presentations.

 

 

 

It was facilitated by industry experts including Martin Ayankola, veteran Energy editor; Dr. PaulOgbole, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN); Simon Ejembi, Editor/Senior Manager, Channels Digital; Taiwo Adesina, Video production Specialist/Drone Pilot, and Emonye Adekwu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

 

 

 

Stanley Opara,Manager Corporate Communications at Seplat Energy Plc, who represented Chioma Afe, Director External Affairs & Social Performance, Seplat Energy, reiterated Seplat Energy’s commitment to the continuous empowerment of journalists and the media as a whole,as partners in progress.
