End Strike Now,NAFDAC Boss Begs Health Workers

         Mohammed Shosanya
The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, has called on members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) to end their ongoing strike action.
The strike, which began on October 7, 2024, has affected NAFDAC’s essential regulatory functions, raising concerns about potential risks to public health.
Prof. Adeyeye expressed concern over the prolonged strike, stating, “The continued disruption of NAFDAC’s operations poses a significant risk to the health and safety of Nigerians. We must put the interest of the nation above all else.”
According to her, management has engaged in multiple meetings with union leadership to address grievances, including the expansion of vacancies for staff promotions, the gazetting of hazard allowances, and concerns about the agency’s training school in Kaduna.
Despite these efforts, the situation remains unresolved. Prof. Adeyeye highlighted that the agency has made substantial progress on key issues, such as writing to the Head of Service for expanded vacancies and securing the Minister of Finance’s support for the gazetting of allowances.
“Promotion in public service is based on merit and availability of vacancies, and the agency is not in control of vacancies but has made necessary moves to address the situation,” she explained.
She also refuted allegations regarding non-payment of disengagement allowances and benefits, clarifying that the management remains committed to ensuring that outstanding claims are processed promptly. She added that efforts to resolve other union concerns, such as the casualization of drivers, expansion of the organogram, and review of laboratory allowances, are ongoing.
Acknowledging the staff’s dedication, Prof. Adeyeye appealed to union members to return to work, emphasizing the importance of NAFDAC’s role in safeguarding public health. “NAFDAC staff are known for their diligence and hard work, and I urge you to return to work in the interest of our nation,” she said.
Prof. Adeyeye assured that management would continue to address all outstanding issues, adding that the agency cannot afford to let the strike compromise its reputation or ability to generate revenue, which could affect future allowances for staff. She urged the union to follow the lead of SSASCGOC, another staff union, which has already suspended its strike.
“The strike is an ill wind that blows no good. We must prioritize Nigeria’s health and safety, and I will not rest until these issues are properly tackled,” she affirmed.
FG MovesTo Review Nigerian Laws

Mohammed Shosanya

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, says the Federal Government is making moves to review of the Laws of the country.

He disclosed this after he was conferred with honorary doctoral at the  12 Convocation ceremony of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti(ABUAD)

He said: ” We have assembled a team of legal luminaries to achieve this within a limited time frame. This law review intervention will cut across all aspects of our social, economic and political life.

He also said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also expressed similar concerns with Aare Afe Babalola on the matter of our laws

He said the duo  always emphasized the need to ensure that the laws of the Federation respond to the daily needs of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“It is for this reason that we are now about to commence the most holistic review of the Laws of the Federation ever seen in the history of Nigeria.

“One ongoing concern, before I took office, was the poor remuneration of judicial officers. I am again pleased to report that a major intervention of the Tinubu administration in the judiciary is the recent 300% upward review of the remuneration of judicial officers in Nigeria across board.  To be sure, I can confirm that the implementation of this new remuneration package has begun in earnest. This is an important first step in recognition of our collective desire to strengthen our judiciary.

“As we speak this morning, the foundation has already been laid for the quarters for Justices of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

“I should also add that in furtherance of our determination that the FMOJ is not only seen as a law and justice institution, but also sensitive to the needs of Nigerians, we have prioritized public interest litigation. We are humbled by national accolades we received arising from the manner we handled the local government autonomy matter.

“This is our modest contribution to the strengthening of our Federation and invariably our democracy. We hope to pursue additional matters under our public interest litigation program. Specifically, we are focusing on our criminal justice system. The increasing number of persons on remand in our custodial centers is not acceptable.

“These are a few of the highlights of the intervention of my office in the justice sector.

” Nothing I have said should be misconstrued to mean that we have all the solutions or that we have it all figured out. Achieving a justice system that works in the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians will not happen overnight. It will be a long and painstaking process. I have oft stated  that our  approach to reforms in the sector will not be dogmatic. Under my watch we will welcome suggestions and constructive criticisms. As long as they are all aimed at taking us closer to a more perfect justice system.

He commended he management of the ABUAD .” one can not always but marvel at the audacity behind the undertaking of ABUAD. This university is a constant reminder of what is possible in this country when men and women of good will insist that we will settle for nothing but the best. Translating a vision of educational excellence into reality is no mean feat.

“Education is the bedrock of societal progress. The impact of a university like this—its commitment to developing young minds and equipping them with the tools to navigate and transform the world—cannot be overstated.” Fagbemi said .

        Mohammed Shosanya
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde,Monday inaugurated 480 Amotekun Forest Rangers, assuring  that his government will continue to give priority attention to the security of residents of the state.
He disclosed that plans are underway to establish airstrips in Igbeti and Otu towns respectively, noting that the state government will also provide aircraft security gadgets to support and enhance security surveillance activities in the state.
He stated this at the passing-out parade of the 480 Amotekun Corps Forest Rangers, held at the NYSC Orientation Camp,Iseyin, Oyo State.
He added that he would approve hardship allowance for all Amotekun corps, reiterating the commitment of his government towards supporting all security outfits in the state and prioritising the welfare of workers,
He said: “Since assuming office in 2019, we have continued to invest heavily to secure Oyo State by supporting our security agencies to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively.
“But we knew that more needed to be done to secure more lives and property. You will agree with me that one of the biggest achievements in security was the creation and operationalisation of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun by governors of the South-West states.
“Even though Oyo Amotekun only commenced operation in November 2020, we cannot imagine Oyo State without them. This is how important they have become to our security architecture over these years.
“We recognised that there was more to be done to address kidnapping, banditry and other illegal activities in our forests and this is what led to the initiative to establish Forest Rangers as a sub-unit of Amotekun in 25 local government areas, with about 480 recruits out of the 561 passing out today.
“These rangers are to work within the forests in their local government areas alongside other stakeholders and other community groups. Their task is to secure our farmers and other people engaged in commercial activities. They are also to preserve our natural resources in our forests in the forest to prevent illegal activities.
“These additional Oyo Amotekun recruits passing out today will increase the number of Amotekun to 2,500 corps members.
“Let me once again restate our commitment to providing all that is required to ensure that Oyo Amotekun can deliver on their mandate. We will continue to provide the equipment needed and monthly operational grant to ensure smooth operations.
“We took out Group Life Insurance for the existing 2,000 operatives and I want to say that we will ensure that the new recruits, who are passing out today, are also brought immediately under the Group Life Insurance.
“We will ensure that your new assignments are not hardship postings by supporting you with all that you need to succeed. We also expect that you will remain dedicated to your duties and ensure that you follow all the laid down guidelines and procedures which you received during your training.
“The Commandant asked for hardship allowance for the forest rangers. We are not only going to provide the allowance for the forest rangers but provide it for all Amotekun Corps. So, bring the proposal to me. It is approved as requested.
“We will employ more Amotekun Corps. We will set up an arm of Amotekun that will use aircraft for surveillance activities, drones. We will set up two airstrips; one will be in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area and one in Otu, Itesiwaju Local Government Area. All of these will happen within the next one year.
“So,with the Airport in Ibadan, the Airstrip in Igbeti and Otu, before ground troops move in for any clearance operation, we would have got a lot of intelligence and information provided by Amotekun.”
Governor Makinde thanked the security commanders, security agencies, Amotekun Corps and all the members of Oyo State Security Council for ensuring that the state is one of the most secure states in Nigeria.
He also assured the Amotekun Corps of adequate integration and sustainability of their jobs with the government, stressing that the government would put in place adequate and appropriate modalities that would guarantee their jobs after the expiration of his administration.
The Commandant,Oyo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd), said the recruitment of the Amotekun Forest Rangers was to complement the efforts of Governor Makinde.
He noted that the rangers would keep the state safe and secure from increasing threats of kidnapping, banditry and illegal mining in the forests with 24 hours of static and mobile patrol, ensuring safety of farmers and protection of natural resources from illegal exploitation.
He commended the governor for supporting and prioritising the welfare of the officers and provision of adequate equipment and logistics support since the establishment of the agency.
