Ebenezer Comprehensive High School, Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos State has celebrated  golden jubilee of its foundation.
At the well attended event, the National President of the Old Students Association, Capt. Michael Makinde, explained that the golden jubilee of the school founded in 1971 was an opportunity for old students to see each other after so many years of exiting the school.
“There are some that we haven’t seen ourselves for over 40 years. Today marks an opportunity for us to see again and rejoice with each other and see how we can move our Alma mater on.
He added:”It is an opportunity for us to discuss some things that concern us and our school generally. We came in a couple of years ago and we have done a lot in the school. We refurbished the library and the science laboratory and we are working on converting the library to e-library at the moment. Also, we have just rebuilt the offices of the principal and the vice principal. There are quite a lot that we are planning to do”
He expressed excitement  for the opportunity to renovate the administrative block and library, saying the old boarding arrangement in the school would be glowingly brought back to the admiration of the teachers and students.
He spoke  on how the old students  have hitherto  added value, adding  that the association gave out scholarships awards to some deserving students, gave them notebooks and textbooks.
He stated that they also planned to uplift the boarding school, saying that some of the buildings, where they stayed as borders then, had collapsed.
He added  that some of his colleagues are doing well too, and that some of their members are scattered all over the world and doing very well.
“We have members in various fields. We are joining strength to do some of those things I spoke about. We have been having cordial relationship with the authorities of the school. They allow us to have our meetings here and we work hand in hand for our various projects in the school,” he said.
He added that  members of the executive of the association met with some members of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school and that they were trying to harmonise their plans so that they could come up with a resolution.
On funding for the projects, he said; “so far, glory be to God, members contribute to most of our projects and we have reached out to corporate bodies and it has been encouraging. But primarily the contributions come from the exco and members generally,” he said.
In his remarks, the Deputy National President of the association, Comrade Oladipupo Ajose, explained that the association’s gesture was motivated by the need to add value to the school.
“The essence of the event is for us to know ourselves and see how we could meet again. We were able to get 50 people from my set, this is an achievement. We believe that the vision of the school has continued, even when it changed from private to public and them from public to private.
“My advice to the government is that we need the co-operation of both the government and the private on the education sector.
“The government is trying now, but they still need the private sector to partner with them. One of the things that made the standard of education to fall is because the financing of education has not been easy,” he said.
He  advised  the youth to give increased attention to their education.
“Even if you want to become a carpenter, you need education, you want to be a mechanical engineer, you need education.
“I initially went to a road side mechanic to learn the practical of engineering before I went to Yaba College of Technology and later Ibadan Polytechnic and I was able to combine the two. There are some engineers, who only know the theory, but I know the two, so I can work with any machine.
“No matter what you want to do, you must be educated so that you will not be lost,” he said.
An alumnus of the school, Alhaji Mansur Oladunjoye said the memorable day was a great joy having acquired knowledge through the school and the uncommon opportunity to give back to the alma mater.
He also appreciated the support of all the sets for their financial and moral supports for a successful celebration.
In his address the Chairman, Board of Governors of the School, Chief Abel Fagbamigbe recalled the  challenges encountered and the excruciating sacrifices made by the directors to make the school notable for quality school product, of which today every old students is proudly one.

‘Ekiti Attracting More Jobs,Businesses’

IGR: Ekiti Attracting More Businesses, Private Universities – Ogunmilade - News Centric
The Chairman of the  Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service(IRS), Mr. Muyiwa Ogunmilade has said that the Kayode Fayemi- led administration is working hard to deepen the state’s revenue base.
Ogunmilade, who disclosed this in a chat with  journalists in Ado-Ekiti, said the state is on the path of greatness due to governor Fayemi’s investment friendly policies and programmes .
According to him,the internal revenue  under his supervision had recorded tremendous successes through the innovation and  deployment of modern technology  in the tax administration .
According to him, some of the initiatives deployed  by IRS to reduce friction between tax payers and the administrators was the establishment of relationship  management unit.
He added:”Tax is a universal thing  but elites are making tax administration more difficult in Ekiti .Nobody wants to pay tax anywhere in the world ,even advanced country applied sanctions for tax defaulters. .Ekiti is  not near crescendo of where its supposed to be in terms of revenue but we are moving fast ” Ogunmilade said
He explained that his team had succeeded in increasing the internally generated revenue from the paltry 400million to N850million monthly.
According to him, this was made possible through a process called ‘Tax Net’,which enables  diligent capturing of many businesses outfits hitherto operating  in the State without paying taxes .
Specifically ,Ogunmilade said Governor  Kayode Fayemi has been able to jack up the state’s revenue from “N400m monthly in 2018 to N850 million without double taxation, without any burden, without increasing taxes. I am just sure that  Ekiti can generate N1.5 billion monthly. We are not over- promising. If we can do that, a lot of things will be easier for our state”.
Ogunmilade disclosed that IRS in its determination to tackle tax evasion, also  discovered about 150 car wash business premises in Ado, Ikere and Iworoko that were not paying taxes, saying the agency had given them bills to raise the monthly IGR profile.
The Ekiti State tax chief added further that  the informal or shadow sector of the economy like: commercial motorcyclists fondly called Okada riders, tailoring, bricklaying and other associations, are being properly structured, to be able to make adequate contributions to IGR generation.
“We have also introduced Land use charge, which is what you pay to government for built property. It used to be tenement rate. We are particularly happy because our people are cooperating in spite of the initial hitches.
“That was why I said we can do N1.5 billion. Tax is not optional . The most certain thing on earth is tax and death. The issue of double taxation doesn’t arise. We are effecting our tax policy implementation with human face”.
He added that the government is also looking for ways to  deepen its economic  activities, by wooing investors and attract establishment of more private universities and employment generating businesses to Ekiti to increase tax payment.
“We are also looking inwards and revamping our moribund industries. For instance, Nigeria requires 1.7 million litres of milk to cater for daily consumption and only 30 percent is produced locally. This shows that we must work quickly on our Ikun dairy firm that we are doing with Promasidor Nigeria Limited, because we will definitely have offtakers if we produce that 10,000 daily production .
“Let us look at how our economy will be in Ekiti if we an international brewery in our state. We are at the centre and we can easily supply Edo, Ondo, Kogi and Kwara states, where there are no breweries. That is why our elite must support us. We have a long way to go”.
Ogunmiladeb said that Governor Fayemi has given the agency autonomy to ensure independence in operations and to ensure efficiency.
He said: “We can operate without being caged by civil service rules. The law for our autonomy  has been signed.  We now have the potentials to develop. Tax is not a punishment, it is not a burden. It was even mentioned in the Bible many times  than tithe”.
“Rather than for the citizens  to be running away from tax or  think that it is only when a government performs that they can pay , they should rather wait for election time to vote out any government that doesn’t use their  taxes properly. They should learn how to use the weapon of election to effect change”.
Nigerian Military Warns Against Coup

Nigerian military warns politicians, soldiers against coup
The Nigerian army has  warned politicians and officers in the country against  coup.
The warning is coming on the heels of what the Military described as a “misleading publication” by an online newspaper, “Naija News House” on Nigeria military warning politicians and officers against a Coup which it credited to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu- the Army Spokesman.
This is contained in a statement to Daily Independent, signed by Brigadier General Onyeuko, acting director, defence media operations, defence headquarters, Abuja.
The  statement said:”The attention of the Defence Headquarters has been drawn to a misleading publication by an online newspaper Naija News House on Nigeria military warning politicians and officers against a Coup which it credited to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu- the Army Spokesman.
“The publication is a handiwork of mischief makers and enemies of the state. It is a deliberate and calculated attempt to mislead the general public aimed  at causing disharmony in the polity.
“The online newspaper manipulated with the intent of disinformation a previous message released in May 2021 by the then Director Defence Information who is the current Army spokesperson. It is a malicious attempt to bring the military to disrepute. It is obvious that the online newspaper has it’s own sinister intention to cause confusion.
“The Military High Command hereby warns all mischief makers and their proxies not  to draw the military into their engagements. The Armed Forces of Nigeria further reiterated its resolved to remain apolitical and would not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or group of persons that want to tarnish its image or draw it into partisan politics”.
