PDP Advises Buhari To Fight Insecurity With Technology

Killings: Buhari not doing enough - PDP chieftain, Aderinokun mulls fighting insecurity with ICT - Daily Post Nigeria
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),has advised  President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy technology in the fight against terror, banditry, and other crimes, pointing out that the apparent failure of intelligence to track attacks by bandits and follow up on them is a clear failure of the intelligence community.
The National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, who gave the advice at a press conference in Abuja, also  said that efforts should be made towards partnership with foreign governments and miscellaneous entities for the war efforts.
He advocated the need for the establishment of a state police and implored  all citizens to support the quest for state police as is the tradition in other federations.
He added:”Mindful of the current plethora of vigilante in various parts of the country, which have not been enabled to carry out all the elements of effective policing, we call on the governors of the 36 states, the leadership and members of the National Assembly, the Speakers of the State Assemblies, relevant agencies of government, to occasion a summit for a one-stop shop regarding the creation, structure, and management of state police.
“In spite of the concerns over state police, it is doubtful that 36 state police services can be easily overwhelmed, as is the case now with the unitary police. Besides, any challenges can be addressed through legislative framework to make abuse extremely difficult, if not impossible,” he said.
Demanding that all culprits connected to insecurity should be brought to book, the PDP National Chairman said, “all culprits, who have levied war on Nigeria, should be brought to book. It is unfathomable that several mass kidnappings have been successfully staged with the culprits not being held to account. It is a shameful irony that a few bandit leaders that have been taken out were killed by rival gangs and not our security agencies.
“If Sheik Gumi could detect and engage the bandits, we do not understand why our security agencies cannot track, arrest, and prosecute them.”
The party also called for the creation of National Boarders Protection Force to secure the borders, stressing that: “this will include an integrated border protection system that will draw personnel and equipment from existing armed service and Immigration
“We cannot continue to watch while terrorist and bandits continue to levy war on our nation, through our porous borders. This borders force should be equipped with reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, prevention, and enforcement. It should therefore have air, sea, and land capability.
“There must be a synergy and cooperation among the armed services, strategically and operationally. There is no reason a theatre Commander should not have within his control the deployment of the Air Force, the Army, and the Navy in his operational area.
“The administration of President Buhari should completely shed weight on arrogance, lack of respect for Nigerians and its pretences of being an island of integrity.
“He should begin to engage the citizens directly. He should address the nation on the various issues escalating tension in the land and pushing the nation farther to the tips of precipice.
He expressed disgust  that the only economic management tool known by this government is just mind-boggling borrowing.
Why Nigerians Cry For  Secession – CDHR

Committee for the Defence of Human Right-Delta State - Home | Facebook
The Committee for Defense of Human Right (CDHR) has said that  Federal Government’s insensitivity to the issues of marginalization and human rights abuses was  responsible for increased  yearning for secession in the country.
Dr.Osagie Obayuwana, the National President of CDHR, said  that it was a fact that marginalization and human rights abuses have widened the call beyond Biafra to Oduduwa Republic, the Middle Belt and the Lower Niger Congress.
According to him: “The high-handedness with which these issues have been suppressed makes it not surprising that the rebellion would extend to attacks which Nigeria has witnessed in recent times, on the symbols of the state considered oppressive, like the police, the soldiers, the correctional Facilities and customs.
He said that Buhari engaged in pretence to secure office, which is now used to actualize a narrow Fulani agenda, which according to him is a crisis prone misadventure, doomed to failure, but which unfortunately may consume Nigeria, if not abandoned.”
He spoke on  the request by the President that the headquarters of AFRICOM be moved from Germany to Africa, Obayuwana, saying the development was a mere desperation.
He added : “This is an act of desperation that is not properly thought out. It portends the handing over of Nigeria’s sovereignty to the United States of America at this stage of our national history. It is bemusing how the government on whose laps the challenge of consolidating the unity and integration of Nigeria and Africa lies, which has in our view woefully failed in this historical assignment, can imagine that it is American soldiers that can come to the rescue.”
“Buhari’s call gives an insight into how poorly he defined the problem, and to imagine that the sense of injustice felt by the South-East, South-West, South-South and Middle Belt, as well as the poor in the North, can be wiped out by American military might, is troubling.”

Senate  Queries NOA Over N2bn Cash Advances To Staff

Senate Queries NOA over N2bn Cash Advances to StaffTHISDAYLIVE
Senate Committee on Public Accounts has criticized the National Orientation Agency (NOA) over payment N2 billion as cash advances to some members of staff, which was not retired.
It  also faulted the agency for disbursing the sum of N129 million cash to some members of staff instead of paying the money direct into their accounts as stipulated in Circular on E-payment Ref  No. TRY/A8&B8/2008 OAGF/CAD/026/VOL.11/465  dated  22nd  October,  2008 .
Senator Mathew Urhoghide, who chaired the committee  based the query on the 2016 report of Auditor General of the Federation, which is being considered by Senate Committee.
He said the agency did not attached the vouchers used in spending the N2 billion to the documents submitted to the Committee, but only presented Journals to justify the expenditure, which was not acceptable by the lawmakers.
The Director- General of NOA, Garba Abari,  pleaded for more time for the agency to look for relevant vouchers supporting the expenditure.
But a member of Committee, Senator Peter Nwaboshi asked the agency to explain which emergency programme warrants the need to take N129 million cash to a venue.
The officials of the agency were unable to give cogent response to Senator Nwaboshi question, which generated a heated debate on the query.
The committee, however, yielded to the request of the Director General of the agency for more time to address issues raised in the query.
The committee  adjourned the meeting with NOA till 27th May, 2021 in order  to prepare adequately.

The NBA, Ado Ekiti Branch, said these in Ado Ekiti at a news conference marking the 10th Annual Law Week being held in honour of a Legal Icon, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN).

He  urged the Federal Government to convene a roundtable discussion, where all stakeholders could meet, ruminate and proffer solutions to the senseless killings and kidnappings of innocent Nigerians.
