Kano:Yoruba Community Unveils N500m Fundraising Appeal To Build New Palace

The Sarki Yoruba community in Kano, Alhaji Murtala Alimi Otisese (Adetimirin 1),has launched a N500 million fundraising campaign for the construction of a community palace.
The palace project, aimed at enhancing the welfare of the Yoruba community in Kano, includes a residential quarter for staff, a school for the less privileged, a multi-purpose hall serving as a community ventre and revenue-generating space for the Palace administration.
Oba Murtala, in a statement signed by the Palace Secretary, Prince Zakariyau AbdulRasheed Rotimi,said :”we have established a five-member committee under the leadership of Chief Akande Omotayo Kazeem, with Chief Femi Smith Johnson as his assistant to oversee the fundraising efforts.
The statement explained that the project will not only enhance the Palace’s operations but will also significantly contribute to the welfare of our people.”
Oba Murtala emphasized the importance of modernizing the community’s facilities, saying, “To truly serve our community, we must adapt and modernize our facilities and offerings.”
The Chairperson, fundraising committee,Chief Kazeem, in his acceptance speech expressed the committee’s determination to mobilize support, stating, “We are determined to mobilize support from our community and beyond, engaging everyone in this noble cause.”
The committee said it will commence work immediately by organizing events and programs to raise funds from local and international donors.
Oba Murtala urged the Yoruba community to rally behind the initiative, saying, “Together, we can create a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations and foster unity and progress within our community.”

Bauchi State House of Assembly has adopted Hausa Language in addition to English in conducting business of the House.

Its speaker, Rt Hon Abubakar Y Suleiman, announced this at the plenary shortly after member representing Shira Constituency, Hon. Auwal Hassan, moved a motion, on Tuesday.

He said that the English is the official language adopted for conducting of governmental and nongovernmental institutions in Nigeria and the Section 97 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Order 3 Rule 8 of the Standing Orders of the Bauchi State House of Assembly 2017 provides that the proceedings and debates of the House shall be conducted in English Language, the house may conduct its business in one or more other languages spoken in the State.

According to him,Hausa being the most popular spoken language in Bauchi, used for communication purpose by over 90% of people across the State, should be adopted in addition to English as second official language.

DSS Recovers Huge Amount Of Money, Military Uniforms In Mamu’s Home, Office

The Department of State Services (DSS) has recovered large amounts of money in different currencies and denominations as well as record of financial transactions in Alhaji Tukur Mamu’s residence and office in Kaduna.

Mamu, a terrorists ransom negotiator was arrested by Nigeria’s foreign partners at Cairo, Egypt on 6th September, 2022 while on his way to Saudi Arabia where he was arrested together with his two wives and sons.

Spokesperson of the Service, Dr. Peter Afunanya ,in a statement on Thursday,said, “Appropriate security agencies have executed valid search warrants on Mamu’s residence and office.”

During the processes, Dr. Afunanya disclosed that, “Incriminating materials including military accoutrements were recovered.”

He said other items recovered from the terrorists negotiator who is also the Publisher of Desert Herald Newspaper, include “large amounts in different currencies and denominations as well as financial transaction instruments.While further investigations continue, Mamu will, sure, have a day in court.”

The Mamu’s arrest was sequel to a request by Nigeria’s Military, Law Enforcement and Intelligence Community to their foreign partners to bring back Mamu to the country to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.

Adamawa Government has shut   30 boarding junior secondary schools in the state  over insecurity.
The closure will take effect  from today, September 6, 2021 till further notice,according to a statement by the commissioner of education and human capital development, Mrs. Wilbina Jackson.
The statement explained that the  move was a proactive measure to ensure the safety of students in view of the insecurity affecting the country.
The four schools that will not be affected by the closure are the Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Yola; General Murtala Mohammed College, Yola; Special School Jada; and Special School, Mubi.
“The Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, wishes to announce that 30 boarding junior secondary schools out of the 34 schools in the state, have been de-boarded with effect from 6th September, 2021. From now henceforth, all the 30 government junior secondary schools are now day schools.
”The remaining four that are not affected are Government Girls Junior Secondary School Yola, General Murtala Mohammed College Yola, Special School Jada and Special School Mubi.
“This becomes necessary due to the present incessant security challenges faced by the country and owing to students’ tender age, hence the need for them to study under the care of their parents.
”All students from the affected schools are to be placed in the nearest public junior secondary schools within their catchment or domicile areas. Stakeholders, PTA, ANCOPS and others are to ensure compliance with this government policy,” the statement said.

 NHIS  Lauds Gov Inuwa  Over Implementation Of Contributory Health Scheme

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State over efforts to attain the Universal Health Coverage.
The state coordinator of NHIS, Comrade Abdulhakeem, Musa Aliyu,who gave the commendation at the opening ceremony of the operational guideline validation workshop of the Board of Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, said the state has gone far ahead of other states in implementing the State Contributory Health Scheme.
He commended  the board members for their passion to improve the lives of people at the grassroot and their diligence in executing the initiative of Governor Inuwa.
He stated that within a very short time GoHealth and her Board will be a point of reference in the field of contributory healthcare schemes in the country.

At a  first stakeholders workshop jointly organised by the Development Governance International (DGI) and the state Ministry of Health, Dahiru assured stakeholders of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage for all in the state.
He advised the team to brainstorm and review with the consultants to develop a working paper for the scheme state’s endorsement.
He spoke on the journey so far, and commended the governor for signing the bill enabling the agency in December 2019.
He recalled that the governor also constituted a five-man technical working group to midwife the process to which DGI were instrumental to the design of the State Contributory Scheme.
“This design has catapulted the state’s sgency ahead of so many other states that started long before her,” he said.

He said:”This design has catapulted the state’s agency ahead of so many other states that started long before her. So far, over 25,000 vulnerable have begun enjoying the scheme and enrolment to the formal sector program.Over 20,000 principal beneficiaries will be enrolled in the following month while that of their dependants will be done consequently,” he stated.
Dr. Musa,who explained  that the essence of the five-day workshop was to review the operational guidelines to be validated and approved by the board,urged participants to be fully engaged, appreciating DGI for their efforts.
 GoHealth,he said,was incomplete without DGI’s support, calling them families.
Cholera Claims 37 Lives  in Bauchi

The number of people who have lost their lives to the recent cholera outbreak in Bauchi State has risen to 37.
The  immediate past Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Aliyu Maigoro, had on 25th May, 2021, announced the outbreak, with a 37-year-old housewife who reported with the disease at the Burra General Hospital on 24th April, 2021.
Maigoro disclosed that 20 people had died from the disease, while 322 people affected were being managed.
The Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHDA) has said that the deadly disease has now spread to six more local government areas from the initial nine, making it 15 local government areas of the state.
The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, in a data on Monday,disclosed that 1,799 cholera cases were recorded between 25th May, 2021 when the outbreak was announced and now.
The agency said  Alkaleri; Bauchi; Darazo; Dass; Ganjuwa and Giade were local government areas with reported cases of cholera in the State.
Other affected  councils are: Jama’are; Kirfi; Misau, Ningi; Shira; Tafawa Balewa; Toro; Warji and Zaki.

The government also privately owned motorcycles  have been  restricted between the hours of 9pm and 6am.
Its  Deputy Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Ahmed Ketso,who disclosed these while giving an update on efforts being made to end insecurity in the state,said  89 operational vehicles, 283 motorcycles, four tricycles and 30 bicycles have been provided to security agencies to ensure adequate security of the state.
He disclosed  that negotiations are still on-going  between the state government and the armed bandits to ensure safe return of the

Herdsmen attack IDPs camp, kill seven in Benue - Daily Post Nigeria
 Suspected Fulani herdsmen  have about seven Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Abagana IDP camp in Makurdi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The attack led to protests by  the youths and some displaced persons blocked the Lafia/Makurdi highway and insisted that troops posted to keep the peace should leave the state, since they  have not shown the capacity to do the job.
Governor Ortom later drove  to the area to appease the youths before they could open the road  nerves to traffic.
He said:”From what is happening, within the last two weeks we have lost more than 70 people within the Makurdi, Guma and Gwer-West LGAs alone in addition to what you are seeing here today.
“Many are in the hospital apart from the seven that died in the attack on the IDPs camp by these herdsmen militia.
“I want to say that we are being overstretched; our patience is being overstretched and our preaching on rule of law is being overstretched. You can see that the people are fed up. Mr. President must rise up.
“He is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President of over 250 ethnic nationalities in Nigeria. They voted him, we all voted him.
“Mr. President, you took an oath of office to secure the lives and property of the people. This is unacceptable, this cannot continue. Mr. President cannot continue to be aloof. Mr. President must rise up to address the nation himself not his aides.
