Family Confirms Peteru Dies Of Colon Cancer Complications

A Nigerian comedian and on-air personality Oluwatobi Owomoyela, popular as Peteru who passed on in the early hours of Thursday, December 22 has been confirmed to have died from colon cancer complications.

The comedian,who buried his father barely six weeks ago,was billed to remarry in the early days of next year.

Peteru, a household name in comedy circles due to his unique mimicry was until his demise, one of the fastest-rising comedians who had made a name in the South- West of Nigeria, having worked with the foremost Nigerian entertainers. He was also an MC, a brand influencer and an On-Air Personality in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He is survived by his mother, siblings, and a son.

In a statement issued by the Owomoyela family announcing his death, Peteru’s family asked to be allowed to grieve and mourn the huge loss.

How Nigeria Can Promote Blue Economy-NIMASA Boss

Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA),has said that collaboration amongst all organs of government and the organized private sector will accelerate harnessing the Blue Economy in Nigeria.

Jamoh disclosed this while delivering a paper titled ‘Opportunities and Challenges in Harnessing the Blue Economy at a seminar organized by the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.

He expressed that NIMASA’s task is to explore how Nigeria can maximize the benefits derivable from our Blue Economy.

This concept of Blue Economy which gained prominence some few years ago requires local, regional and international collaboration to manage critical factors,he said.

He said that the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs(NIIA), has a critical role to play for Nigeria to fully harness the potentials of the Blue Economy.

He added:”The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs should play a role in advising government on policies which would facilitate the realization of the Blue Economy.Just as in maritime security, the Deep Blue Project has shown that through co-operation and collaboration, great results can be achieved reason why I appreciate the participation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service as well as the Nigerian Navy.”

The Director-General of the NIIA Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, while acknowledging the progress made in securing the Nigerian Maritime domain and the Gulf of Guinea, emphasized the import of the Blue Economy globally and called for sustainable use of ocean resources to be considered when shaping government policies.

He said:”When considered in economic terms, the global Blue Economy would be the seventh largest in the world which highlights its importance. “As such, sustainable use of the Blue Economy for economic growth should be at the core of any policy formulation by government.”

Abuja: Troops Destroy 429 Motorcycles Seized From Terrorists, Kidnappers

Troops in the North Central Zone of Nigeria have seized and destroyed 429 motorcycles from terrorists and other criminals in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Major General Musa Danmadami, Director, Defence Media Operations (DMO) announced this at the Defence Headquarters on Thursday, during the biweekly briefing on troops activities and operational successes in the various operational theaters in the country.

According to him,on 8th December, 2022, troops in “conjunctions with other security agencies raided Karamajiji and Lugbe general areas in Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory to rid the general area of the menace of criminal elements.

During the operations the team intercepted a total of 429 motorcycles,he said,adding that motorcycles were subsequently crushed same day in an open field at Lugbe in the presence of all participating security agencies.

He said,on 16th December, 2022, troops in conjunction with other security agencies conducted fighting patrol to Kassanki village in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory and arrested five suspected kidnappers in their hideout.

He also said,between 8th and 15th December 2022, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN raided the residence of a notorious gunrunner who was on the wanted lists of own troops at Rampla village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Two fabricated pistols and one fabricated rifle were recovered by the troops during the operation.

He added:”Troops also carried out covert operation on 9th December, 2022 and arrested two notorious kidnappers at Gora and Maijuju villages in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State. Troops while on patrol had also contact with bandits within Kampani general area in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

“Following the operation, troops neutralized one bandit while others fled. Troops recovered 25 rounds of 7.62mm special and two motorcycles among other items. Also, a notorious gun runner was equally arrested along Kwankonka-Zaria road in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state on 19 December 2022 with 1 fabricated AK47 rifle, 1 fabricated pistol and 533 rounds of 7.62mm NATO concealed in a bag of grains, while a bandolier was also discovered inside a jerrycan of palm oil.

“Consequently, within the weeks in review, troops recovered three locally fabricated AK47 rifles, two locally fabricated pistol, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special, 533 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, tre motorcycles, cutlasses and mobile phones among other items”

Danmadami said, the air component of Operation SAFE HAVEN on 3rd December, 2022 conducted air interdiction operation at identified bandits hideouts at Odare, Magama forests and Zurak general area of Kampani village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He added that during the operation, seven motorcycles, each mounted by three bandit were seen trying to escape but were bombarded.

Feedback confirmed that the bandits suffered severe casualties as they were all confirmed to have been neutralized in the air strikes,he said.

Troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI in the North West Zone of the Country, according to General Danmadami have sustained operational activities through the conduct of fighting patrols, raid and clearance operations to clear bandits and terrorists enclaves within various towns and Local Government Areas of Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kaduna States respectively.

He added:”On December 2022, troops conducted fighting patrols to an identified bandits hideout at Ungawan Babale and Rafin Sarki in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State and made contact with the terrorists.

“Following the fire fight, troops neutralized five terrorists while others fled. Equally, on 7th December 2022, troops on fighting patrol at Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State arrested a suspected gun runner who has been on the wanted list of troops at a filling station while refueling his car.

“Items recovered from him include five AK47 rifles, 4,000 rounds of 7.6mm special ammo concealed in a sack, four magazines, teargas cannister as well as knives. Also, on 4th, December 2022, troops responded to distress call on terrorist attack at Maigamji village in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State and made contact with the terrorist, during the operation, three bandits were neutralized while others fled with gun shot wounds.

“Troops exploited the area and recovered a bag containing seven AK 47 magazines loaded with 204 rounds of 7.62mm special, two motorcycles and a mobile phone. Same day, troops made contact with bandits at Mahuta village in the same Funtua Local Government Area.Following the fire fight, troops neutralized three terrorists and recovered two dane guns, four mobile phones and daggers among other items.”

Police Parade Gunmen Who Kidnapped Varsity Don,Others Along Lagos /Ibadan Expressway

Oyo State Police Command under the able leadership of the State Commissioner of Police, CP. Adebowale Williams has on Thursday paraded three Point of Sale (POS) operators alongside seven other suspected kidnappers terrorizing Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

The POS operators and other suspected kidnappers are 20-year old Mohammed,Muhammed Bello, 28; Usman Hassan, also known as Yellow, Babangida Buhari Awalu, 34; Kabiru Aliyu also known as Dangata, 25; Mikailu Yahaya, aged 25; Muhammadu Umoru, 30; Ayanwola Samson Gbenga (POS Operator) aged 22; Adewuyi Adewumi Sunday(POS Operator), aged 34; Rafiu Abdul Majeed (POS Operator) aged 40.

The suspects were paraded alongside with other suspects at the state Police Command Headquaters Eleyele Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo state.

The sum of N7.5million,four AK-47 Rifles, 75 AK-47 live ammunition, two pairs of military camouflage and one mobile police beret were recovered from them.

The state commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams,told journalists that on 28th October, 2022 at about 1700hrs, some members of a dreaded kidnapping syndicate who were reportedly armed with AK-47 Riffles and some other sophisticated firearms attacked and kidnapped an academic don and seven other persons who were traveling along the Ibadan end of the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

According to him,the gunmen also attacked a team of responding policemen while heeding the distress call in a bid to rescue trapped victims on the highway, this in turn led to the death of an Inspector of Police who paid the supreme price in a fierce gun duel.

The kidnappers later whisked the victims away to an unknown destination through the thick forest along the said Ibadan/Lagos expressway while their relatives were contacted for monetary demands in exchange for their liberty.

In one of the most coordinated reconnaissance operations in the history of the Command, all Command’s Operational, tactical and Intelligence assets were collapsed and fused as one to attain the goal of immediate rescue of the abductees unhurt and the apprehension of their abductors for prosecution.

He said,the command in a technological intelligence-aided operation aided and with necessary support from Amotekun (the Oyo State Security Network) and other communal partners, apprehended the duo of Babangida Buhari Awalu and Kabiru Aliyu both commercial motorcyclists and couriers for the kidnap syndicate while retrieving “exchange money” for other members of the syndicate around Ojoo Area, Ibadan.

He added that further detailed and painstaking investigations led to the arrest of five members of the criminal gang who identified themselves as Mohammadu Salfa ‘M’, Usman Hassan A.K.A Yellow Putel, Muhammadu Bello ‘M’ and Mikailu Yahaya ‘M’ alongside the cash sum of (N7,500,000) Seven Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira which was part of recovered monies from the abductors.

Further escalated findings led to the arrest of (3) three additional suspects who gave their names as Adewuyi Adewumi Sunday, Atanwola Samson Gbenga, and Rafiu Abdulmajeed AYANWOLA from GBUGBU area of Kwara State and AGO-ARE in Oyo State respectively.

He said it was also discovered that monies received from the victims were moved into the bank accounts of the three additional suspects for onward distribution to other members of the kidnapping syndicate.

The three additional suspects, Adewuyi Adewumi Sunday, Ayanwola Samson Gbenga, and Rafiu Abdulmajeed have all since voluntarily confessed to their complicity in the criminal activity and also confirmed that the transactions were made into their Bank accounts through Point of Sales terminals at choice locations to evade arrest,he said

The manhunt for other members of the criminal syndicate continues as further development will be communicated accordingly,Adebowale said.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects are Four (4) AK-47 Rifles, Seventy five (75) AK-47 live ammunition, two pairs of military camouflage and one mobile police beret.
