A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in Anambra State for allegedly robbing a victim with a fake pistol.
The suspect, Udochukwu Nwankwo, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, by police officers at B Division, Amansea, during a routine patrol.
Police recovered a metallic lighter designed to look like a pistol, which the suspect allegedly used to threaten and rob a victim of her valuables.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nwankwo allegedly operated with two other accomplices, who are currently at large. The trio reportedly attacked a guest at a hotel in the area and allegedly made away with her mobile phone and other personal belongings.
The police said the teenager, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to using the recovered pistol-like object to intimidate victims during robbery operations.
Following the arrest, the Command said it had intensified investigations and launched a manhunt for the two fleeing suspects.
The police are also working to recover the stolen mobile phone and other valuables allegedly taken during the incident.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said all persons found culpable would be brought to justice, while efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects were ongoing.
The development further underscores the importance of sustained security patrols and intelligence-led policing in communities across Anambra State, particularly in preventing criminal activities and protecting residents and visitors.
