The Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG, has appointed Mr. Jim Swartz, Chevron Boss, as a Director on its Board.
In a statement on Thursday, NESG Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tayo Aduloju, said the appointment reflects the Group’s commitment to strengthening its leadership with accomplished professionals.
According to him, Swartz’s expertise and strategic perspective will support NESG’s mission of promoting sustainable economic development, inclusive growth, and private sector-driven transformation in Nigeria.
Mr. Jim Swartz is the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria/Mid-Africa, providing executive leadership for Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) and its affiliates across Nigeria and the wider Mid-Africa region, including Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Benin, Togo, and Ghana.
He assumed the role in 2024 and is based in Lagos, Nigeria. In this capacity, he provides leadership across asset strategy and performance, operational execution and delivery, stakeholder engagement, government relations, and operational excellence across multiple geographies.
He brings over 36 years of experience with Chevron, having served in a variety of technical, operational, and executive leadership roles across the United States and Africa, including Louisiana, Angola, California, and Texas.
His extensive career reflects deep expertise in the energy industry, particularly in upstream operations, asset development, capital projects, commercial strategy, and organisational leadership.
Before his current position, Mr. Swartz served as Vice President, Capital Projects, in the Chevron Technical Center in Houston, USA, where he was responsible for developing the technical and organisational capabilities supporting Chevron’s global project portfolio.
He earlier served as Director for Chevron’s Deepwater Asset Class and as General Manager of Asset Development for the Gulf of America Business Unit.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with Distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, obtained in 1988, and a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Oklahoma, obtained in 1990.
As a Director on the NESG Board, Mr. Swartz brings extensive expertise in executive leadership, upstream and midstream operations, stakeholder engagement, commercial strategy, asset development, and joint venture governance.
His experience leading complex energy operations across Nigeria and the wider Mid-Africa region will provide valuable perspectives to the NESG’s policy dialogue, particularly on issues relating to energy, investment, infrastructure, productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable economic growth.
The NESG expressed confidence that Mr. Swartz’s extensive international and regional experience, combined with his understanding of Nigeria’s energy sector and investment landscape, will further strengthen the Group’s efforts to promote evidence-based policy advocacy and advance reforms that support Nigeria’s economic transformation.
