A Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised the alarm over a mysterious deposit made into his private account by an individual unknown to him.
A statement on Friday by Phrank Shaibu, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, said the credit carried the narration “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”
The statement added: “At no time did His Excellency, his campaign, or any authorised representative solicit, approve, or have prior knowledge of the payment or the identity of the sender.”
It also noted that the circumstances surrounding the transaction are deeply disturbing, adding that the affected account is a strictly private account whose details have never been made public.
“This raises a critical question: How did an unknown individual obtain the confidential banking details of a private citizen?
“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and leading presidential candidate can be accessed and used without authorisation, then the financial privacy of every Nigerian is potentially at risk.
“Even more troubling is the possibility that such confidential information may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access to sensitive banking records. If established, this would represent a grave breach of privacy, abuse of trust, and a serious security threat capable of exposing account holders to criminals, including kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters, and other malicious actors.
“We call on the relevant security and regulatory authorities to immediately investigate the source of this transaction, the circumstances under which the account details became available to unknown persons, and whether any laws governing data protection, banking confidentiality, or financial security have been violated,” the statement said.
The statement added that Nigerians and security agencies should be put on notice, given that the incident occurred amid other suspicious events ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It said:”As political activities intensify, Nigerians must remain vigilant and refuse to be distracted by tactics designed to intimidate, provoke, or orchestrate character assassination. Such schemes have failed in the past and will fail again.
“The Waziri Adamawa remains firmly committed to presenting Nigerians with credible leadership and practical solutions to the nation’s pressing challenges.”
