The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has slammed Governor Seyi Makinde over a fresh N100 billion loan approved by the State Assembly on Wednesday.

The party described it as impunity, recklessness and insensitivity to the masses.

Speaker Debo Ogundoyin had read Makinde’s letter requesting the N100 billion loan from a commercial bank on Monday, and the Assembly approved it despite opposition.

In a statement on Wednesday, APC spokesman Olawale Sadare also warned Makinde against spending N4.2 billion of local government funds on the council election proposed for December 29, 2026.

The party said Gov. Makinde recently admitted that President Tinubu’s administration pays billions monthly to states and local councils, including Oyo, but it has not brought relief to citizens.

It said despite questions over how he has spent the state’s wealth since 2019, Makinde is seeking another loan.

It said Makinde cited refinancing of existing loans and ongoing infrastructure projects for the loan, but described it as fraud, accusing his government of inflating contract costs and violating due process.

It added: “Since 2019, Oyo state treasury has been bleeding in all body parts because it is under the jackboot of wasteful spenders and kleptomaniac. Gov. Makinde would prepare an appropriation document and get it passed for an annual budget only to run back to the State Lawmakers midyear to get another nod for a Supplementary budget approval even when the original budget had not been implemented in accordance to the dictate of the law.

“The recent resignation of the Director-General of the Due Process Office as well as the gale of resignations of top officials in the Makinde administration is a pointer to the fact that the hen is coming home to roost after May 29, 2027. As a matter of fact, Engr. Makinde and his cronies shall be made to cough out every kobo of the money belonging to our dear state which they have misappropriated while in office immediately after the expiration of his final term in about seven months
