The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially affirmed former Senate President, Senator David Mark, as the legitimate National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
A notice published on INEC’s official website on Wednesday confirmed that the David Mark-led executive remains the legally recognized leadership of the opposition party.
The list also featured former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary; Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Mani as National Treasurer; Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary; and Prof. Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
Senator Mark was sworn in as interim National Chairman on July 30, 2025, pledging to uphold internal democracy across all levels of the party. This pledge was further reinforced during the ADC’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
The recognition by INEC effectively puts to rest agitations by some aggrieved members, notably Nafiu Bala, who had earlier maintained he’s rightful chairman following the resignation of Dr. Okey Nwosu.
Bala said that the party’s constitution automatically makes the deputy national chairman the successor in the event of a resignation, dismissing the NEC’s decision to appoint Mark. He further alleged that some of those parading themselves as leaders were not even registered members of the ADC.
