Four separate court cases challenging the governorship candidacy of Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi have been discontinued by the litigants.
He is the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Ogun State in the February 2027 election.
The reasons for the withdrawal were not disclosed by the litigants.
Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, said in a statement that the litigants had become convinced of the merit of his candidacy and opted to discontinue the cases.
One of the cases, Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was filed by Professor Awolola Awoniyi pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police.
Suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by officials and members of opposition parties, including the Ogun State chairmen of the Booth Party and Young Progressive Party (YPP), as well as members of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Labour Party (LP).
The other discontinued matters are Suit Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, involving some of the same party officials and members, including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of the African Democratic Party, and other political actors.
According to the statement, Professor Awoniyi’s case was withdrawn on August 24, 2026, while the remaining suits were withdrawn on September 7, 2026, in open court.
It said the defendants and their counsel were duly informed through Notices of Discontinuance.
Adeola welcomed the withdrawal of the cases, saying his attention remained focused on delivering what he described as dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.
He also promised to intensify his mobilisation and campaign across the state as the 2027 general election approaches.
