The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Ago/Festac Bridge axis.
According to Adebisi, officers intercepted a Toyota Camry XLE carrying two suspects: Emmanuel John, 24, and David Godwin, 28.
Items recovered include 500 SIM cards, weapons, hard drugs, and other items. Investigations are ongoing.
She said a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs, adding that during preliminary interrogation, both suspects confessed to being members of the Aye secret cult.
She said that further investigation led to the arrest of three additional suspected cult members identified as Samuel Owubokiri, (m), aged 25 years; Adetona Seyi, (m), aged 20 years; and David Chigozie (m), aged 25 years.
She added: “Exhibits recovered from the suspects include military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms, and various substances suspected to be hard drugs.The suspects also confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, has reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes in the state.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the Police to aid crime prevention and enhance public safety.
