The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said that the total number of metered customers across the 11 distribution companies rose from 7.09 million in January to 7.21 million in February, this year.
The February increase pushes Nigeria’s metering rate to about 58.6%, based on an estimated 12.3 million active customers, NERC said in its latest fact sheet.
In January, the industry metering rate stood at 57.93 per cent after 119,792 customers were metered. By February, the figure rose by 0.64 percentage points to 58.57 per cent.
Eko Electricity Distribution Company maintained the highest metering rate at 87.62 per cent in February, up slightly from 87.15 per cent recorded in January.
Ikeja Electric followed with a metering rate of 87.16 per cent, compared to 86.69 per cent in the previous month, while Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded 79.37 per cent, improving from 78.54 per cent in January.
According to the data, Port Harcourt DisCo also posted notable progress, with its metering rate increasing from 65.47 per cent to 66.36 per cent.
Yola DisCo recorded the lowest metering rate at 31.86 per cent in February despite adding 5,273 new customers during the month.
Jos DisCo improved marginally from 32.94 per cent in January to 34.04 per cent in February, while Kaduna DisCo rose from 34.82 per cent to 35.59 per cent.
Kano DisCo remained largely stagnant, recording 35.37 per cent in February compared to 35.36 per cent in January after metering only 149 customers during the month.
The data also disclosed disparities in the level of meter deployment among the utilities in Nigeria.
It said Benin DisCo recorded the highest number of newly metered customers in February with 25,658 installations, followed by Abuja DisCo with 18,352 and Ibadan DisCo with 16,445.
Kano DisCo posted the weakest performance with only 149 newly metered customers, while Enugu DisCo added just 691 customers during the period.
Ibadan DisCo retained the largest customer base in the country with 2.48 million active customers and 1.30 million metered customers as of February 2026.
