INSECURITY: Why Fulani herders must leave Oyo - Igboho
Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu,Aiyetoro-Atokun International cattle market,in Ogun state,Wednesday, advocated the need for the enactment of strong  laws that would forestall further wanton destructions and killings in the country.
He told reporters that  the killings and destructions were undeserving in Nigeria, and diminishes the country’s  position among the black race.
According to him, the state and local governments collect N100 each on a cattle, while the federal government takes N1000 from each owner of cattle irrespective of the number.
He disclosed that the management of  the market has since engaged the services of the Army, Police and Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to ward off hoodlums and looters  around cattle markets in the area.
Lamenting that the arrangement cost N1.3million monthly, Adamu regretted that the police always extort motorists plying the area.
He further urged the state and local governments to provide the market with amenities like water, light, fence and improved security.
He spoke on the recent Yoruba/Hausa-Fulani crises in Ogun, saying his members are still counting losses that greeted the crisis.
He narrated how two of his members, Alhaji Aliu Musa and Muhammed Musa ,who have resided in Agboro and Yewa Disu areas of Yewa North local government area respectively for over 50 years lost valuable personal effects.
He claimed  that Aliu in Agboro alone lost over 500 cattle to looters who hid under the misunderstanding to steal, maim and kill.
The hoodlums,he said, stormed Agboro with vehicles, shooting sporadically and eventually killed Alhaji Abdullahi Musa before making away with their cattle  worth over N125 million.
He recalled that houses and domestic animals were also loaded into the invaders’ waiting vehicles.
The Fulani chief also disclosed that no fewer than 25 households were wrecked when they burnt their houses, looted their properties and maimed the residents.
He added that  Muhammed Musa of Yewa Disu lost 16 cattle, his son, Abubakar Muhammed, domestic animals and properties  valued at over N10 million.
