Police in Ondo have arrested A 61-year-old clergy, Famakinwa Ajayi, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl, Ilesanmi Oluwatosin.
The spokesperson of the Command, Odunlami Funmilayo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP),who paraded the suspect,said he was arrested when the victim reported the case at Ayede Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Areas.
The suspect confessed to have slept with the girl once in his sitting room,she said.
Speaking with newsmen, the suspect, who is the landlord to the parents of the victim, denied raping or impregnating the girl.
The victim alleged that the landlord had carnal knowledge of her in a market square late in the night on one occasion,adding that someone saw them in the market but was bribed by the clergy in the night.
The landlord denied all the allegations, saying he initially admitted committing the crime because some people told him he would go to jail if he denied.
He added:”I never had carnal knowledge of Oluwatosin. It’s a conspiracy to tarnish my image because I threatened to send them out of my house if they didn’t continue to attend the joint night prayer I usually hold in my house.
“I told them at the police station to ask why the girl waited till six months before claiming he’s the one who impregnated her.
“I told them to let us do DNA test, but they said it’s when the baby is born that it could be done.I didn’t have carnal knowledge of the girl. This is just a plan to rope me.”
