Fairaction Nigeria has inaugurated its first Advisory Board to boost governance and expand efforts to tackle water poverty and inequality across Nigeria.
The inaugural meeting held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the organisation’s office in Bodija, Ibadan, assembled professionals from water engineering, public health, project management, community development, and media to provide strategic guidance.
Speaking at the event, Chairman and CEO Mr. Emmanuel Olayinka Adeoti said the board marks a milestone in the organisation’s mission to promote equitable access to water.
“Your wealth of experience, strategic insight, and passion for humanitarian impact will be invaluable as we continue to shape and refine our approach,” Adeoti said.
He noted that while Fairaction has made progress, the scale of Nigeria’s water challenges requires broader collaboration and expertise.
Also speaking, National Coordinator Dr. David Tola Winjobi explained that the board would help Fairaction move beyond Oyo State, where it has deployed its “Sustainable Smart Water Infrastructure” in five locations: Isale Oja and Alabata in Akinyele LGA, Boni near Igboho, and Apapa and Araromi/Abeku in Oluyole LGA. The solar-powered, climate-resilient systems are designed to improve reliability and sustainability.
He outlined ongoing projects, including water mapping across 11 local government areas in Oyo State, with plans to cover all 33 LGAs to generate data for policy and donor decisions.
He said Fairaction is also partnering with the DAWN Commission on a Southwestern Nigeria Water Summit and plans capacity-building training on strategic planning for board and staff.
He also said the Advisory Board’s role is non-executive and non-binding, focused on strategic advice, partnership building, fundraising support, and technical review.
“Your role is to guide us, challenge us, and open doors that will help us serve the needy communities across Nigeria,” Winjobi said.
He also said Board members will also advise on borehole sustainability, maintenance, monitoring, community ownership, and MEAL frameworks to ensure accountability and measurable impact.
According to him, the board will support fundraising and resource mobilisation for the costly smart water infrastructure, and provide counsel on donor engagement, proposal development, and crisis management.
Winjobi said the board reflects Fairaction’s commitment to integrity, professionalism, and placing communities at the centre of decisions. “Water is life [SDG 6], but partnership is what sustains it [SDG 17],” he said.
