Security agencies in Niger State have uncovered a criminal syndicate specializing in producing and selling fake Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and National Identification Numbers (NINs).
The Niger State Police Command arrested a 42-year-old suspect, Mohammed Aliyu Buba, during a raid on his residence in the Angwan-Sarki area of Minna metropolis.
State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Adamu Elleman, who confirmed the arrest, said operatives recovered 189 fake PVCs and 105 fake NINs during a search of the suspect’s house.
According to him, findings showed the syndicate manufactured and sold at least 189 PVCs at N2,000 each and 105 NINs at N1,000 each to unsuspecting members of the public in Munya and Wushishi Local Government Areas.
He said: “In June 2026 alone, the group reportedly made about ₦3 million from the illicit business.”
He added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to producing over 1,000 fake PVCs and making millions of naira from the fraudulent scheme.
He said the suspect specializes in producing fake PVCs for communities in Wushishi and Munya LGAs.
Elleman said the suspect is in custody and will be charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.
He urged residents to obtain their PVCs and NINs only from INEC and NIMC offices, warning that possession or use of fake documents is a criminal offense.
