Troops of the Nigerian Army, 6 Division, have shut down seven illegal refining sites and seized over 109,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in a coordinated operations conducted between 10 and 23 November 2025.
Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, who disclosed this on Monday, said the confiscated products included 88,000 litres of stolen crude oil and 21,355 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), valued at over ₦150 million.
According to him, in Rivers State, operations around Okolomade in Ahoada West Local Government Area led to the destruction of three illegal refining sites, along with three large pots, four receivers and three coolants.
He added that the troops also recovered over 40,000 litres of stolen crude and 20,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel.
He hinted that at the Imo River axis, soldiers uncovered three additional refining sites with eight drum pots, seven drum receivers, a fibre boat and more than 14,700 litres of stolen crude in the Asa, Obeakpo, Lekuma and Abiama communities of Oyigbo LGA.
He further noted that in a separate intelligence-led raid in Abuloma, Okrika LGA, the troops uncovered 1,050 sacks containing more than 32,000 litres of stolen crude.
The soldiers, he quoted, also intercepted a Cotonou boat at Abonnema Creek in Akuku-Toru LGA carrying 25 sacks loaded with over 1,000 litres of illegally refined AGO.
In Akwa Ibom State, he said, suspected storage site at Ikot Akpan, Ekparakwa, along the Abak–Ikot Abasi road in Abak LGA were raided, as the troops recovered 520 litres of illegally refined AGO stored in a drum and jerricans, alongside several empty containers.
The troops also carried out an operation at the DAEWOO yard in Ekpan, Uvwie LGA of Delta State, where suspected oil thieves fled into nearby creeks on sighting soldiers, abandoning wooden boats loaded with jerricans, where three 25-litres jerricans containing 75 litres of crude oil were recovered.
He quoted that in Bayelsa State, troops reported continued operations aimed at restricting the movement and activities of criminal elements involved in oil theft.
The statement lauded the troops for their sustained efforts and urged them to maintain the momentum.
