Supporters of former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, on Thursday, May 27, 2026, publicly called on him to move to another political party following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The supporters, who are largely from Makama Ward in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the former IGP’s home ward, staged a symbolic protest by burning brooms, the official symbol of the APC, to demonstrate solidarity with his decision to leave the ruling party.

The development, according to political observers and supporters, is reportedly gaining momentum across several wards and local government areas in Nasarawa State, where many loyalists of the former police chief are said to be expressing similar sentiments over his exit from the APC.

The gathering attracted scores of loyalists, youths, women, and political associates who expressed disappointment over what they described as unfair treatment meted out to Mohammed Abubakar Adamu within the political structure of the party in the state.

Addressing journalists during the demonstration, some of the supporters maintained that the former IGP remains one of the most popular and widely accepted political figures in Nasarawa State. They insisted that despite his political strength, grassroots structure, national reputation, and growing support base across the state, he was denied a fair and transparent political contest.

According to them, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu possesses the experience, credibility, and leadership qualities needed to reposition Nasarawa State for greater unity, development, and inclusive governance.

“We strongly believe that Walin Lafia was not given a fair and transparent contest despite his overwhelming popularity and acceptance across the state. His supporters are everywhere, and the people believe in his leadership capacity,” one of the supporters stated during the gathering.

The supporters further urged him not to abandon his gubernatorial ambition, stressing that many residents of Nasarawa State still see him as a credible and capable leader who can provide purposeful leadership and accelerate development across the state.

They appealed to the former IGP to consider joining another political platform where, according to them, his political aspirations, contributions, and support base would be better appreciated and respected.

Political analysts believe the development could significantly reshape the political landscape in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially considering the influence, popularity, and support structure Mohammed Abubakar Adamu commands across different parts of the state.
