The All Progressives Congress has disqualified 14 House of Representatives aspirants, including Rivers Rep. Boma Goodhead, from contesting its ongoing primaries.
It released the list Saturday through National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, saying the aspirants were screened but not cleared to participate.
The disqualifications cut across five states: seven from Ondo, four from Rivers, and one each from Bauchi, Ebonyi, and Kogi.
The affected Ondo aspirants are Hon. Adefisoye Tajudeen, Olusegun Victor Ategbole, Seun Oluwashina Ajongbolo, Rt. Hon. Arowole Ayodeji Samuel, Morufu Tosin Ibrahim, Oseni Oyeniyi, and Olaleye John Adedipe.
In Rivers, the four disqualified aspirants are believed to be loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. They are Air Commodore John Azubuike Opara (Rtd), Hon. Anderson Allison Igbiki, Awaji Imombek D. Abirite, and Hon. Boma Goodhead.
Others are Dr. Bashir Ibrahim Bello of Bauchi, Hon. Idu Igariwe of Ebonyi, and Sanni Salau Ogembe of Kogi.
APC said the screening was conducted by its committees “in line with established procedures and guidelines.”
The party also clarified that proof of payment of membership dues is only required for aspirants and their nominators during submission of forms and screening. All duly registered members can vote in the primaries without showing payment receipts.
The party urged members to disregard contrary reports and allow the primaries to proceed peacefully.
