Sahara Group Foundation has commissioned its 18th and 19th Sahara Go Recycling Hubs in Ojodu LCDA, Lagos, deepening community access to structured waste management and income opportunities.
The hubs, launched in May 2026, are part of the Foundation’s initiative to divert recyclable waste from landfills, improve resource recovery, and create household income through waste-to-wealth solutions.
At the commissioning, Director Chidilim Menakaya explained that the hubs reflect the Foundation’s focus on practical, community-driven solutions with long-term environmental and economic impact.
“By bringing structured recycling solutions closer to residents, we are promoting environmental responsibility and creating opportunities for households to derive economic value from recycling,” Menakaya said. “This initiative shows how collaborative action can unlock livelihoods, strengthen local resilience, and build sustainable societies through EXTRApreneurship.”
Ojodu LCDA Chief of Staff Olaide Bello, representing Chairman David Olusegun Odunmbaku, said the hubs align with the council’s sustainability priorities by turning waste into resources, cutting environmental impact, and supporting livelihoods.
“This model shows how communities can drive environmental responsibility while advancing inclusive economic growth,” Bello said.
Since launch, Sahara Go Recycling has facilitated the recycling of over 1,000 tonnes of materials and impacted more than 2,000 livelihoods across Lagos through collection, sorting, logistics, and community enterprises.
The Foundation said it will continue expanding the initiative across Lagos and beyond as part of its mission to build sustainable communities.
