Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, has received 98 entries for the inaugural Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, ahead of the submission deadline on Thursday.
The first edition focuses on documentary filmmaking on the theme “Identity” open to Nigerian filmmakers aged 35 and below.
The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts is part of NLNG’s investment in creativity, innovation and national development.
NLNG General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, explained that the volume and quality of entries reflect the creative potential of Nigerian youth and the prize’s relevance in amplifying their voices.
Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, represented her at the event.
She said:“The response reaffirms our belief in storytelling as a tool for national development.These entries show the passion, innovation and depth of talent among young Nigerians who are eager to shape narratives that project the country positively.”
The prize aims to inspire a new generation of storytellers to produce documentaries that celebrate Nigeria’s identity, heritage and resilience while contributing authentic African perspectives to global conversations.
Horsfall said the initiative aligns with NLNG’s commitment to human capital development and excellence, building on the legacy of The Nigeria Prize for Literature and The Nigeria Prize for Science.
The advisory board, chaired by Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, will oversee adjudication with technical support from Joel Benson. Entries will be assessed on originality, storytelling, production quality and overall impact.
Receiving the entries on behalf of the judges, Prof. Adimora-Ezeigbo said the submission “brings the prize to life” and urged judges to uphold excellence and integrity in their assessment.
The winner will receive $20,000 and will be announced at the Grand Award Night in October 2026.
