The United States Embassy in Nigeria, has advised Americans in Abuja to avoid all non-essential visits to military installations and government facilities in the nation’s capital city.

Global security concerns forms the basis for its latest advisory, according to a statement on Monday.

In the latest statement, the U.S. Mission cautioned  that due to increased security threats emerging from current international developments, its personnel, family members, and private American citizens should refrain from visiting military and government locations unless on official Government business.

“The U.S. Mission is closely monitoring the situation and urges all American citizens to exercise maximum caution, especially in areas that attract Westerners, expatriates, and Government officials,” the statement read.

The advisory comes amidst heightened tensions in several regions and countries of the world, particularly in the Middle East, where recent conflicts have sparked serious concerns over potential retaliatory actions against U.S. interests abroad.

Besides the restriction of  movement, the Embassy offered safety guidelines for American citizens, urging them to maintain high situational awareness in public spaces, avoid large gatherings, and limit unnecessary travel.

The Embassy also advised American citizens to reduce their daily routines, familiarize themselves with the nearest emergency exits in public buildings, and regularly update their personal security plans.

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos confirmed that their consular sections remain fully operational, continuing to provide both routine and emergency services to American nationals.
