The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, has suspended indefinitely one of his diety chiefs, Ororin Sunday Olu Adetolaju .
Alawe told newsmen on Thursday, that the suspension was as a result of the established cases of infractions and disobedience to Ekiti State Chiefs law as well as violation of Ilawe-Ekiti tradition, culture and customs by the erring chief .
According to him, the notoriety of the suspended priest included installing himself as a Chief without the approval of the Prescribed Authority who,in the Case of Ilawe-Ekiti,is the Alawe.
He said:”By the powers conferred on me as the Prescribed Authority over minor chieftaincy matters in Ilawe, I HRM Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi Afuntade1. hereby suspend Sunday Adetolaju as the Ororin and a Deity Priest in Ilawe indefinitely.
“In his place, I now announce Omo Orin Tunde Bamgbotogun to act as the Ororin. He shall perform all Ororin duties at the Oke Orin and Owa Orin.
“With this suspension, Sunday Adetolaju is banned from performing any traditional duty in Ilawe Ekiti.
“Gentlemen of the Press, this Sunday Adetolaju has for some time been wearing apparels and paraphernalia exclusively meant for Obas in Ekiti against the extant Chiefs Law of Ekiti.
Recently he wore a crown and used beaded walking sticks and moved round a section of the town .
He was caught on video and his case was reported to Ekiti State government while I persuaded my people to remain calm.
“The government intervened and he appeared before the Deputy Governor twice where the Alawe In Council narrated his misdemeanor in the town.
“Ororin Sunday Adetolaju also installed some people as chiefs without due recourse to the Alawe and contrary to the Chiefs law.
” The people of Ilawe-Ekiti don’t want him again to be the ORORIN, Alawe In Council don’t want him even Deity Priests IOROS have expelled him from the group before this time as a result of his nefarious attitude s) I have been managing the tension created by his activities till now but it has come to a head that is why I sought the approval to suspend him from the state government which has been granted.” Alawe said
