Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has mandated all commissioners and political appointees to either defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with him or resign from their positions.
He issued the directive during a State Executive Council Meeting in Uyo on Thursday.
He emphasized that his intent to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC is no secret.
He expressed admiration for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s leadership style, stating that he wishes to align himself with the President’s vision.
He has no intention of negotiating with his appointees, except for elected officials such as House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen.
He warned that those who choose not to follow him would have to leave their positions.
He asserted that he would maintain control over the PDP structure even after defecting to the APC. He cautioned those who might think they could use the party structure to oppose him, stating that such notions are unfounded.
He confirmed reports that Akwa Ibom State receives N200 billion monthly, as previously reported by The Mail newspaper.
He expressed discomfort with the publicity surrounding this figure, citing potential interest from neighboring states, particularly Cross River State.
