Nigerians have deplored yesterday’s attack on the facility of the Nigerian Defence Academy(NDA),Kaduna, saying the development was a slap on the territorial integrity of the country.
The Nigerian Army had confirmed the killing of two of its officers and abduction of a senior officer at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in Afaka, Kaduna State.
The Peoples Democratic Party lamented that the insecurity situation has so deteriorated under President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress’s tenure that suspected bandits now have the temerity to attack military formations, including the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, where they killed two officers and abducted another senior officer.
PDP, in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said, “bandits and terrorists are now freely ravaging our communities in Kano, Kaduna, Kogi, Benue, Zamfara, Adamwa, Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Imo and other states of the federation, including Mr. President’s home state, Katsina, where the governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has now asked victims of terror attacks to defend themselves.
“It is distressing that having lost hope in the capacity and commitment of the President Buhari-led APC administration to protect their citizens, state governments are now sending vehicles to the University of Jos, Plateau state, to evacuate their citizens. This shows their complete loss of confidence in the APC administration and the empty promises by the Buhari Presidency.
“It is even more disheartening that while our nation is under turmoil and while hundreds of helpless Nigerians, including innocent students, are languishing in kidnappers’ den, President Buhari and APC leaders are more interested in their lavish funfair with state owned resources and facilities. Our party notes that violence and acts of terrorism had escalated across the country due to the incompetence and compromises of the Buhari administration as well as its refusal to heed wise counsel from well-meaning Nigerians, including the PDP on how to secure and stabilize the nation.
“Moreover, the APC has failed to account for the hoodlums, thugs and terrorist elements they imported from neighboring countries as ‘political mercenaries’ to unleash violence on Nigerians and muzzle the 2019 general elections,” the party said.
The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, described the invasion, killing and abduction at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as an assault on Nigeria’s territorial integrity, which must be treated with all seriousness.
In a statement signed by his SA Media and Publicity, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, the lawmaker said NDA is Nigeria’s premier training institution for Nigeria’s Armed Forces, a pride to the country and Africa, hence such a daring attack on the institution, is unacceptable and must be investigated by the military hierarchy.
He said:”It is disheartening and unfortunate for such an attack to have taken place, catching those in charge of its internal security off guard”.
Commending Nigeria’s security personnel for
making efforts to decimate bandits and insurgents nationwide, he advised they should not let the NDA incident demoralise them.
Besides, the Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development (CNEPD), has attributed Tuesday’s morning attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy,NDA, Kaduna, to failure of Nigeria’s intelligence network.
They said the development was an indication that no Nigerian no matter his or her status was safe in the country.
They demanded immediate sack of the National Security Adviser,NSA, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd) as well as comprehensive review of the entire security architecture,as according to them, the entire security chiefs must bear the blame.
National Coordinator of the Group, Engr. Zana Goni, blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for leaving Monguno behind at the time he replaced service chiefs.
It expressed support to the President and his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress,APC, noting that their position was based on patriotism to the country.
The elders insisted that it was time for the President to sack Monguno due to the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
They punctured stakeholders in the region over what the group described as “their long silence in the face of unbearable criminal acts by armed herdsmen and insecurity across the country ‘thereby giving a bad image of the region.”
“We find it once more expedient to comment on the worsening security situation in the country, especially the latest attack on a military formation, the Nigerian Defence Academy, which is the institution where future military leaders are trained. We woke up to the sad news of the attack on the NDA, leaving two officers killed and another abducted by bandits with heavy hearts. If it was not the confirmation of this unbelievable action by the Academy’s spokesperson, Bashir Jajira, we would have still been in doubt.
“The fact that a fortified military institution could be so easily invaded by armed militias without resistance has left us with the conclusion that no part of this country and no citizen,no matter his or status is safe again.Without mincing words,we wish to attribute this ugly development to intelligence failure and gaps in the capacity of our armed forces. We wish to strongly say here that the attack is a slap on the Nigeria intelligence community and the armed forces”, the group said.
