The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command  has commenced a special operation tagged “Operation Thunderstorm” to clamp down on motorists Very Important Personalitiess who are in the habit of not fixing number plates and those  who are fond of replacing their number plates with pet names.
Besides,the operation recorded a total arrest of 110 Traffic offenders for number plate violation, and other offences with private and commercial vehicles within the state.
Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, Lagos Sector Commander, explained  that the enforcement was carried out after the Command noticed the recent flagrant disobedience to the National Road Traffic Regulations by motorists.
He added: “The operations which started today is one of the Command’s intervention patrol aimed at reducing  road traffic crashes and also putting a stop to the impunity of not properly affixing number plates and other violations involving private cars, commercial buses and  articulated trucks.”
He also stated that 110 vehicles were issued tickets for various offences, while 75 vehicles was impounded and 35 documents confiscated during the operation.
He reminded  motorists that a number plate has security features that should not be tampered with under any disguise.
He added:”We have noticed a new trend of aberration and disregard to law and order. A situation where some Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and motorists change one of their Number Plates, which comes in pairs, with their pet names or their popular slogans can no longer be tolerated”.
