2023: INEC To Register Additional 100 Million Voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set its target to register 20 million additional voters as the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise flags off June 28,2021.
INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu,who gave the indication during the commission’s quarterly Consultative meeting with Media executives in Abuja,stated that with the coming launch of Online Voter Registration portal and deployment of over 2000 mobile physical registration equipment, the goal of the commission to enrol about 100 million voters ahead of the 2023 general election  would be met.
Prof Yakubu,who lauded the collaborative effort of the media in the successful expansion of voter access to polling Units carried out by INEC, expressed confidence that the coming CVR exercise would be accorded the same media support.
The commission exhibited its  Voter Enrollment Device (IVED),designed by INEC engineers, 2000 of which would be deployed to enable data capture of intending voters  .
Also, Engineer Chidi Nwafor, INEC Communication Department,demonstrated the online registration processes , saying that Nigeria may not need to queue endlessly to register to vote as they can undertake  a pre-registration process in the comfort of their rooms .
