A civil society organization, Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has appealed  to
Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to  waive the
recent fines it slammed on Channels TV and Inspiration FM by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for breaching sections of the broadcasting code
The group also  admonished the media stations to be patriotic and responsible in the discharge of their responsibility.
Commending the NBC for living up to it’s responsibility of ensuring that national peace and security is not undermined by acts in breach of the broadcasting code by media stations, (CSER) just like the NBC frowns at such acts of unprofessionalism and unpatriotism that has made NBC to mete out the sanctions which are statutory and clearly stipulated to Channels TV and Inspiration FM.
Nelson Ekujumi, the Executive Director  of the group noted that :”We recognize that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has the constitutional powers to sanctions any erring station which breaches the broadcasting code, same way that it has the powers to review the appeals and apologies of erring station and set aside it’s sanctions”.
“We at CSER are making this appeal for clemency on the grounds that we assume that the two stations are first offenders whose sanctions should be treated as such and warned to go and sin no more”.
The group implored the NBC to listen to the pleas of Nigerians on this matter in view of the fact that this are economically and socially traumatizing times for the country in which all hands must be on deck to safeguard national unity and cohesion.
