The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday said that removing national minimum wage from the exclusive legislative list is a declaration of war on Nigerian workers.
The President of NLC), Ayuba Wabba, who  stated this when he led members in a protest march to the National Assembly, said that the development conflicts   with International best practices.
He maintained that his union  will  shut the country with a nationwide industrial action if a bill to this effect  becomes  law.
The Bill seeking to remove minimum wage from the exclusive list to concurrent list, is sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives, Garuba Datti Muhammad representing Sabon-Gari Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
Wabba  said   that the protest was necessitated by the bill, which he said  will enable state government determine their own minimum wage, stressing that his union  will resist the move.
He also said he led the protest to National Assembly due to non-implementation of financial autonomy for state legislature and Judiciary as provided for in Section 121(3) of the Constitution and Presidential Order 10 signed in 2020, rising spate of insecurity in the country that has continued to manifest in form of kidnappings and banditry and fuel scarcity, which it calls  on the federal government to as a matter of urgency fix the countries refineries.
The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Abdullahi Sabi, told the protesters that the lawmakers would not pass laws that would injure the interest of workers in the country.
