Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his adminstration’s
commitment to the safety and security of teachers and pupils in all schools across the state.
He stated this at the commissioning of infrastructure projects in the newly constructed Elemoro Community Junior Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos on Tuesday.
He noted that the state “approach to constructing new schools, rehabilitating and revamping existing ones is all encompassing and is also our way of saying we are taking the issue of security in our public schools very seriously.
“I wish to use this opportunity to restate our commitment to the safety and security of teachers and pupils in all schools across Lagos.”
The Elemoro Junior Secondary School facility is a state of the art facility that consists of 18-classroom block, comprising 12 standard classrooms, six special rooms for Home Economics, Technology, Art/Music studio, science laboratory, Library and ICT room.
The facility also contains teachers’ offices, sickbay, standard canteen block and over 30 toilet facilities.
The governor noted with delight “that this brand new school also comes with sport facilities including a 40 by 25 meters football pitch, a six lane sandwich Athletics Running Track and a spacious seating arena.”
Sanwo-Olu announced that the state government’s “is making plans and looking at constructing the Elemoro Community Senior Secondary School within this compound as well, to ensure continuity in senior secondary education in this community.”
He also assured of the state’s continued commitment to the education sector,  and assured that “we will continue to invest in the education and future of our students and youths because they are our assets and hope for a greater future.”
Sanwo-Olu charged the management and administrative board of the school to ensure that these new facilities are properly maintained to serve their purpose so that resources can be invested in other areas of priority in the near future.
Also, the state Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, emphasized that infrastructure is important to quality education and for a child to realize his or her full potential. Adefisayo noted that this informed the “state government’s resolve to continue to put in place requisite facilities such as the one we are commissioning today.”
She charged stakeholders to preserve and take proper care of these facilities bearing in mind that the state government has expended a lot of funds into the provision.
Adefisayo said: “To the students, I charge you to continue to justify the huge investments being expended on you by excelling in your studies.
“To the community, I urge you to pay great attention to these children as whatever we invest is not just for them but for our sakes as well because we are guaranteeing our own peace of mind in the nearest future.”
