The National Assembly has sent the Electoral Bill 2021 to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
The Senior Special Assistant to President on Nations Assembly (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare, conveyed this in a statement on Friday .
He said:”Please be informed that in pursuance of Section 58 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Acts Authentication Act Cap. A2 LFN 2004, the National Assembly has transmitted the Electoral Bill 2021 to Mr. President today Friday November 19, 2021.”
The National Assembly said it will transmit the electoral act amendment bill 2021 this week to President Buhari for assent.
The chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Kabiru Gaya, who stated this, noted that the National Assembly expects that President Buhari will sign the bill into law.
Speaking on the direct primary, Gaya expressed hope that direct primary will take democracy to the grassroots, adding, it will allow people who are card carrying members of the party to decide who should be their candidate.
