The Senate on Tuesday asked President Bola Tinubu to consider nationalising South African businesses in Nigeria and severing diplomatic ties over xenophobic killings.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole proposed that companies like MTN, Stanbic IBTC and MultiChoice be taken over, with proceeds used to compensate victims.
He spoke on Tuesday while contributing to a motion sponsored by Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Cross River South, on the continued attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Also speaking, Senator Abdul Ningi, Bauchi Central, said the Senate could not remain silent while Nigerians are being killed openly in South Africa.
He said Nigerians have the right to live and work in any country, adding that statements of concern alone would not solve the problem.
Senator Babangida Hussaini, Jigawa North West, lamented that Nigerians are being vilified and killed not only in South Africa. He called for a stronger foreign policy to address the situation.
Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Monguno, Borno North, and other lawmakers also condemned the persistent attacks and destruction of Nigerian businesses in South Africa, urging the Federal Government to take decisive action.
