Crash: Anthony Joshua Leaves Hospital

Former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, has been discharged from hospital after his involvement in a fatal road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The mishap claimed the lives of two aides and close friends to the boxer, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami.

He was treated at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi Lagos, the governments of Lagos and Ogun States, said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

They  expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as sad, painful, and deeply unfortunate.

The state governments prayed that Almighty God grants the repose of the souls of the deceased and gives their families the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Anthony Joshua, who had been receiving medical care since the incident, was discharged from the hospital late on Tuesday after being declared clinically fit by medical professionals.

The statement noted that the boxer remains heavy-hearted and emotionally distressed over the loss of his two friends and will continue his recovery from home.

The statement further revealed that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, had visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay final respects to the deceased as preparations were underway for their repatriation, scheduled for later in the evening.

The statement further revealed that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State expressed appreciation to members of the public for their outpouring of sympathy, concern, and support following the incident.

The governors also conveyed their gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for what they described as his fatherly support throughout the period following the accident.
