A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Tuesday, restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The interim order was sequel to a ruling on an ex parte application filed by former Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, challenging the planned conduct of the PDP National Convention.

In the ex-parte motion moved by his lawyer, Jephthah Njikonye, (SAN),  Lamido prayed the court for an interim order stopping the planned convention, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

In his ruling, Justice Peter Lifu held that the application of the plaintiff/applicant has “merit and therefore succeeds.

He restrained the PDP from proceeding with the Ibadan National Convention pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

He also stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring and recognizing the November 15 and 16, national convention pending the hearing of the substantive suit.

He noted that the plaintiff/applicant is a bonafide member of the party and has interest in the position of the national chairman of the party.

According to him, the plaintiff/applicant (Sule Lamido) will suffer more if the prayers contained in the motion are not granted by the court.

He has no reason to digress from the decision of Justice James Omotosho, also a judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who on October 31, 2025, had retrained the PDP’s national convention and restrained INEC from monitoring and recognizing the convention,Justice Lifu maintained.
