Biafran nation agitator, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday, declined to open defence in his on going trial by the Federal Government, over alleged terrorism charge.
He had notified the trial judge, James Omotosho, of his intent to call witnesses and applied for witness summons.
Sequel to the sack of his defence team led by Kanu Agabi (SAN), and declaration to defend himself in court, the Judge on October 24, adjourned till today (October 27), for Kanu to open his defence.
At the resumed sitting, Kanu told the court that after perusing through the case-file, he realised that there is no valid charge against him.
He contended that since he is convinced that there is no valid charge against him and that he was subjected to unlawful trial, there would be no need for him to conduct any defence.
The trial judge directed him to file a written address to that effect and serve the prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).
Justice Omotosho has advised Kanu to consult experts in criminal law on the consequences of the option he has chosen.
The court adjourned to 4th, 5th & 6th of November for the adoption of the final written addresses on the strength of the defendant’s position that evidence led so far and the charge have not established any case against him or for the defendant to enter his defence.
