Too many generous people on these streets. In a way, it’sso pleasing to see. The rave reviews on Jagun Jagun is, in my recollection, unprecedented. Even that inscrutable fella of Kogboduku and Associates scored it 10/10. Made me do a double take.
But me I no gree o. Infact, I don’t know what you people were watching. The movie was bland. Storyline was muddled even in its simplicity. What’s with all that burning fire to light a pathway to the palace during the day? No na! There was the scene where it was dark/night inside and daylight outside.
Even the quality cinematography was not enough to save the movie from its deficiencies. The fighting choreography was iffy. I also didn’t get the rationale of a warrior enthroning kings by pillaging village and towns while he remained just a warrior – I’ve been asking myself where in Yoruba history this existed. There was the tokenism of force-fitting of oldies in roles just for the appearance. And then that head twitching stuff that was clearly taken from Fadeyi Oloro who played similar roles in movies of decades ago.
I like Femi Adebayo. Once spent 6 hours together on a flight and we chatted from start to end. Great guy. He’s doing very well and deserves a lot of accolades. But I’m not convinced that this effort is the best he can muster.
