The Federal Government has begun construction of an ultra-modern National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) in Osogbo, Osun State.
It will replace the 64-year-old control centre that no longer meets the demands of managing Nigeria’s national grid, according to Vice President Kashim Shettima, who performed the groundbreaking of the project.
He supported by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, and other stakeholders.
Represented by the Senior Special Assistant (Legal), Office of the Vice President, Shettima said reliable electricity is central to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He described power as the bedrock of an economy that works, enabling manufacturers to plan production, small businesses to operate with confidence and hospitals and schools to function, as well as creating jobs and wider economic opportunity.
He said the National Control Centre, is where that reliability is protected, and Nigeria cannot run a modern, isbnterconnected grid with the tools of yesterday.
