The Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State Branch, has sacked its chairman, Dr. B.K.S Saheed, over alleged violations of the association’s rules.

The decision was taken at an Emergency General Meeting on April 18, 2026, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

In a statement signed by new chairman Dr. Ewonowo Temidire Sunday and secretary Dr. O.J Hassan, the association said Congress, its highest decision-making body, deliberated on the allegations and resolved to remove Saheed with immediate effect.

“The Congress extensively deliberated on the issues presented and resolved, through a valid and constitutional process, that Dr. B.K.S Saheed be removed from office with immediate effect,” the statement added.

The NMA said all disciplinary and constitutional procedures were followed. It added that Saheed had ceased to act in any capacity as chairman or elected officer of the Lagos branch.

The association warned government agencies, institutions, and corporate bodies against transacting with him on behalf of NMA Lagos.

“All individuals, institutions, and partners are advised to refrain from conducting any official transaction or correspondence with Dr. B.K.S Saheed on behalf of NMA Lagos State,” it said.

In line with Section 8(1) of its rules, former First Vice Chairman Dr. Ewonowo Temidire Sunday has assumed office as chairman.

The new leadership said it would focus on doctors’ welfare and engage stakeholders on issues affecting members. It condemned increasing cases of harassment and assault of doctors by patients’ relatives, saying it would pursue measures to prevent future occurrences.

The association also said talks were ongoing with institutions over salary delays and non-payment affecting doctors in some centres, and expressed optimism that solutions would be reached.

“NMA Lagos State remains resolute in its commitment to due process, institutional integrity, professional advocacy, and the welfare of all doctors in Lagos State,” the statement added.
