The Benue Investment and Property Company BIPC Limited has commenced the seizure and recovery of disputed landed properties along George Akume Road as well as Nyesom Wike Road in Benue State .
The action was sequel to the directive by the state government to recovered landed properties purchase illegally by some influential individuals in the State.
Group Managing Director, Group Managing Director of BIPC, Dr Raymond Asemakaha disclosed this at a press conference in Makurdi, after taking over two premises during the company’s on going exercise to recover government assets illegally occupied by land users.
Asemakaha, who said TBF management decided to invoke provisions of Edit 10 of 1995, said forensic investigation for the empty plot at Nyesom Wike Road revealed that CBN bought the land to build an estate but later on sold to an individual.
According to him, further investigation indicates that in 2016, the then government used a proxy account in the name of BIPC which was closed immediately after the transaction to purchase the land for government.
He accused some powerful individuals in government during that administration to use tax payers money to purchase the property in the name of BIPC only to divert it to personal use.
On account of the shoddy investment, he said the company opened investigation on the issue tracing the money committed to the investment to the property hence the reason to recover.
Asemakaha also revealed that since his management re- opened the issue no body has come forward to claim the land.
He said BIPC is willing to interface with anyone that would come up to claim ownership, disclosing that title documents including CofO and the agreement BIPC wrote with SEFIDA is still in its custody.
Asemakaha said that the management decided to put up presence because it has gotten information that those behind the deals are planning to sell the land and plaza which was acquired through the same means.
The BIPC added that his management has adequately briefed the EFCC on the matter with the intent to investigate and deliver justice to the general public.
He assured that the company will also clamp down on the banks that assisted in the illegal transactions to ensure that the state and its citizens have justice.
