President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in Rivers State for a six month period.
He said he acted based on Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution
The president made the declaration in a nationwide broadcast this evening following what he declared as the failure of the governor to contain the crisis in the state.
He carpeted Governor Sim Fubara for failing to comply with the Supreme Court judgment and also failing to bring to his attention the state of insecurity.
Besides,he suspended the state legislature for the period of six months.
He has appointed Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas to hold forth as administrator in the period.
