Labour Unions Slam Banks, Others Over Workers' Casualisation
The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institution (ASSBIFI),says  casual staff are responsible for most fraudulent activities in Nigerian  banks.
President of the union,Comrade Oyinkan Olasanoye ,who disclosed this in a chat with labour reporters, said the casual staff  perpetrate frauds on account  of frustration orchestrated by low pay.
She said 80 percent of workers in the employ of banks in Nigeria are casuals, adding that her union  was worried by policy inconsistency that is  encouraging frauds in Nigeria.
She blamed employers in the industry for concentrating too much on profits at the detriment of conducive services to their customers.
She added:“These are some of the policies we are fighting because workers, especially casual workers, are being marginalised of benefits of better working conditions”
She revealed that the sector lost about 15 members to COVID-19 pandemic, stressing  that about 7, 800 people who contracted the virus recovered from it.
She added:“We lost about 15 members to COVID-19. There were about 7,800 that recovered from the pandemic. They were affected by mutilated naira notes. So, people should be more careful in giving out information to strange callers”
