Four Almajirai Die In Kano Hospital After Suspected Food Poisoning

Four Qur’anic students, known as Almajirai, have died in Kano State after reportedly consuming contaminated food.

The students were from the Tsangaya of Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya in Kadage Sharifai, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano metropolis.

According to a statement by the National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, the students were rushed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Sunday after they developed symptoms suspected to be food poisoning.

Nuhu said the students died in the hospital on *Sunday night, August 16, 2026, despite efforts to save them.

The incident has drawn concern from Islamic school operators and community leaders in the area, who are calling for investigations into the source of the food and better health support for Tsangaya students.

The statement did not disclose the nature of the food consumed or the substance suspected to have caused the poisoning, leaving the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths unclear.

It further stated that the remains of the deceased were subsequently buried after approval was obtained from the District Head (Dagaci) and the area police officer.
