The Executive Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government of Ekiti, Hon. Pius Alaba Dada, has confirmed that the Vice Chairman was reportedly involved in a staged abduction and has since been arrested by security authorities.
In a statement, he described the alleged involvement of the council’s Vice Chairman, Mrs.Grace Ogunleye in a self-kidnapping scheme as “shocking, disturbing, and entirely unacceptable.”
“This development is shocking, disturbing, and entirely unacceptable,” the chairman said. “As a government committed to transparency, integrity, peace, and the protection of lives and property, we strongly condemn every form of criminality, deception, and misconduct capable of bringing the image of the government into disrepute.”
Hon. Dada stressed that the law must take its full course without regard for political office or status.
“We wish to assure the good people of Ilejemeje Local Government that no individual is above the law. The law must take its full course without interference, irrespective of status or political position,” he stated.
He commended security agencies for their “professionalism, swift investigation, and commitment to upholding justice” in handling the case.
He also appealed for calm among residents and cautioned against spreading unverified information.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension within the Local Government,” Dada said.
Reaffirming his administration’s stance, the chairman said the council remains focused on good governance and protecting the integrity of public office.
“Our administration remains focused on delivering good governance, maintaining public trust, and ensuring that the integrity of public office is protected at all times,” he added. “May peace, justice, and progress continue to reign in Ilejemeje Local Government.”
