The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji, has said that the integration of technology into revenue systems is no longer optional but critical to the success of Nigeria’s sweeping tax reforms.

He disclosed this while speaking as special guest of honour at the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) Stakeholder Engagement Forum themed: “Harmonising Revenue Systems and Implementing New Tax Laws” held in Abuja.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Joint Revenue Board, Mr. Olusegun Philip Adesokan, the NRS boss emphasised that technology would drive efficiency, transparency and accountability under the new tax regime.

He commended the FCT-IRS for convening what he described as a timely and strategic engagement to strengthen revenue administration and align with Nigeria’s ongoing fiscal reforms.

The reforms, he said, are aimed at redefining compliance, blocking leakages and repositioning the country’s revenue architecture for sustainable public finance management.

He also highlighted the far-reaching fiscal reforms being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that they are designed to promote efficiency, equity and long-term economic stability.

Shedding lights on the Service’s roadmap, Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, described the forum as a transformative initiative focused on partnership rather than enforcement.

He said:“We have not called you here to lecture you on your obligations or announce how much we’ve collected,” Ango said. “We are here to discuss our vision for the FCT and how we can work together to achieve it.”

He emphasized that economic growth begins at the community level and is sustained by the productivity and tax contributions of citizens and businesses. Ango added that the Service is working toward building a tax administration that meets global standards.

He also praised the FCT Minister for infrastructural expansion and improved security across the territory, describing recent developments as unprecedented and driven by deliberate revenue planning.

He stressed that predictable and reliable revenue is essential for infrastructure, security and public services key ingredients of a livable capital city.

Ango further noted that as a statutory member of the Joint Revenue Board, the FCT-IRS now enjoys enhanced access to national tax systems and digital infrastructure to improve administration and collaboration.
