The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Eduma Essien  has called on students to report any form of sexual pressure from lecturers for immediate action.

She also directed students to report cases of sexual harassment to the management or the anti-sexual harassment unit earlier set up by the polytechnic to handle such complaints.

At the 12th orientation exercise for new students on Tuesday, the rector said the polytechnic has zero tolerance for sexual harassment, examination malpractice, cultism and other antisocial behaviours.

“I encourage you to report any form of sexual pressure from lecturers to the management or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Unit. This institution frowns at the exchange of gifts or favours for marks,” she said.

She also warned students to eschew all forms of examination malpractices and cult-related activities, stressing that the institution is determined to produce graduates who can defend their certificates anywhere.

She advised students to be familiar with the polytechnic’s rules and regulations, noting that the sale of handouts by lecturers is prohibited. Students, she said, should only buy approved textbooks.

She assured the students that the management would continue to provide a safe, disciplined and conducive learning environment that supports academic excellence.

She added that students would not only graduate with certificates but would also acquire practical skills through the institution’s mandatory skills acquisition programme.

She further urged students to cooperate with their lecturers by attending classes and completing assignments diligently.
