IBB Varsity Student Takes Own Life After Allegedly Losing Rent To Betting

A 300 level of the Department of Computer Science, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Kelvin Danlami has committed suicide over alleged mismanagement of funds believed to be for his house rent and for general upkeep to gamblers.

His body was found dangling in his room by one of his neighbours who raised the alarm by students who gathered and forced their way into the room.

One of his close friends had recalled how late Kelvin was looking devastated and sad the previous day after being unable to account for money he was deceived to invest on gambling by another friend.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State Command, Wasiu A. Abiodun confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday.

He said the Command received report of suspected suicide by a 300 level Computer Science student of IBBU, Lapai at about 10.30am.

He added:”Information received indicates that in the early hours of the day, one Kelvin Danlami, a student of IBBUL was found to have hanged himself in his room with cloth tied to the ceiling fan”.

“One of the neighbours who discovered the body dangling raised an alarm, and the victim was brought down and rushed to General hospital Lapai, where he was confirmed dead”. 

“Police operatives attached to Lapai Division visited the scene, conducted preliminary investigations and subsequently contacted the family of the deceased”. 

He hinted further investigations is ongoing to ascertain the reason why late Kelvin Danlami took his life.
