Ondo State Security Network, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps has arrested 39 fleeing insurgents from the Northern part of the country.

Theynwere arrested at Elegbeka in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye disclosed that the suspects said they fled the north because they were feeling the heat of the military.

They were found hibernating in a forest at Elegbeka, having parked the two 18-passenger buses in which they travelled to the forest in a distance, he told newsmen on Tuesday.

Parading the suspects, Akogun Adeleye said: “You will recall that there is this black spot where so many criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping, had been taking place, which is Elegbeka axis in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

“As a result of the criminal activities around there, Amotekun Corps had a control post domiciled in the forest of Elegbeka.

“A couple of days ago, 39 suspects were arrested, all together, claiming that as a result of the heat turned on them in the northern part of the country, they are relocating into the forest.

“We are still profiling them, and after the profiling, we may have to send them back, but those found with incriminating equipment and materials will surely be prosecuted.

“The government of Ondo State has made its position known. For you to stay in our forest areas, you must obtain permits.

“So, the sudden influx of these elements poses a lot of questions that we are still working on. I will have them equally arraigned.”

He added that: “They(suspects) were not trekking. They were hibernating in the forest there with two vehicles far away from them. So, we found out and we trapped them and we were able to locate where all of them were.

“So, we brought them together. And like I said, profiling is almost completed.”

Meanwhile, the operatives of Amotekun Corps were able to recover a car stolen from Akure during a robbery operation.”
